Ahead of the National Digital Transformation Day on October 10th, on October 8th, at the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, in collaboration with the Information and Communications Publishing House, organized a book launch and discussion program for "Determann's Guide to Personal Data Protection Law" .

Today, the protection of personal data is receiving increasing attention in the context of the digital age. However, how to raise awareness, minimize risks, ensure security, and understand the laws regarding data protection in general and personal data in particular remains a topic that managers, organizations, businesses, and individuals are constantly researching and applying.

In response to the need to protect personal data and comply with the law, the Information and Communications Publishing House introduces to readers Lothar Determann's Guide to Personal Data Protection Law .

Author Lothar Determann is a law professor who has worked and taught for over twenty years in the fields of international data security, commercial law and intellectual property, computer law, internet law, etc., in Germany and the United States. He has published numerous articles and books on these areas, sharing experiences on building, collecting, protecting, securing, and ensuring data security during the digital transformation process amidst the rapid development of digital technology .

Determann's guide to personal data protection law is aimed at a wide audience. Before being published in Vietnamese, the book has been published in many languages around the world , including Chinese, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, and more languages are expected to be published in the future.

The publication was translated by multiple people, with Master's student Tran Manh Hung and Truong Tan Dung being the two main translators. Present at the exchange program, Master's student Tran Manh Hung jokingly shared that in the past we talked about gold and diamonds; but now we talk more about data.

"In the world today, data itself is being exploited and used, becoming a very high commercial advantage for businesses, especially for technology companies worldwide. At the same time, reports from the United States also clearly state that any click on the internet is recorded and becomes online history," Mr. Hung added.

According to Mr. Tran Manh Hung, personal data is a valuable intangible asset, yet it is also the most frequently compromised and most heavily attacked data in cyberspace worldwide. "Therefore, data protection has become a hot topic not only in Vietnam and the region but also globally. This requires governments , especially Vietnam, to establish a legal framework to protect personal data," Mr. Hung emphasized.

At the program, Mr. Tran Manh Hung stated that Vietnamese people are still too lax in protecting their personal data. Only recently, with the issuance of Government Decree 13 on personal data protection, has the awareness of the people, especially businesses, begun to improve.
