After a year of anticipation, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026 officially kicked off amidst the overwhelming excitement of tens of thousands of spectators. This year's fireworks display is considered the largest and most captivating in the event's history.
When a festival becomes a source of inspiration
As soon as the first information about the theme and participating fireworks teams was announced, DIFF 2026 created a "wave of excitement" on social media and online travel platforms, prompting tourists to plan trips, book flights, reserve rooms, and invite each other to Da Nang.
This year's fireworks festival is being held in a special context and setting, as Da Nang possesses new potential for tourism development – a place where heritage, beaches, mountains, and breakthrough infrastructure all converge.
With the theme "Da Nang - Connecting Horizons," the strategy for positioning the appeal of DIFF 2026 is built upon the vibrancy of the festival in particular, and the overall attractiveness of the city in general, from its diverse nature to its unique cultural identity, creativity, and integration spirit.
On the opening night, against a backdrop of a moving mechanical arch stage, along with many modern performance technologies integrating high-power lasers, 3D LED matrix, Retro Amber lighting system, and multi-layered translucent LED systems, the performances continuously transformed the performance space, creating a visually stunning feast.
It's clear that the appeal of fireworks displays to Da Nang as a tourist destination has increased year after year, as the event has been continuously upgraded and innovated to provide a complete experience for viewers.
Nadia Shakira Wong, CEO of Global2000 – a leading global fireworks consulting company – observed: “It’s difficult to find a fireworks festival as well-organized as DIFF. The world-famous Montreal Fireworks Festival (Canada), which attracts millions of visitors every year, doesn’t have a grandstand and performance stage system on the scale of Da Nang.”
The quality of the performances, the unexpected elements from the fireworks display to the music that each team brings to DIFF are also great catalysts that create the appeal of Da Nang tourism every fireworks season.
“When the song ‘Vietnam's Quintessence’ rang out against the bright sky during the Chinese team’s performance, the entire audience erupted in cheers. It was a wonderful moment, a perfect reflection of the harmonious cultural spirit between nations,” shared Ms. Mai Anh, an audience member from Ho Chi Minh City.
DIFF 2026 is also attractive because of a series of accompanying activities at Sun World Ba Na Hills, My Khe beach, Marble Mountains, East Sea Park, etc.
This year, for the first time, the festival is applying personalized AI through Sun Paradise Land, allowing visitors to transform their fireworks moment into nostalgic postage stamps or e-postcards – a way to prolong the experience and spread images of Da Nang in each person's own unique way.
The numbers speak for themselves.
Not only were the 10,000-seat stadiums filled on opening night, but the roads along the Han River, the bridges, and the seats on the top floors of the seaside resorts were also packed with people, a testament to the enduring appeal of a festival that has lasted for nearly two decades.
Specifically, on May 30th alone, the number of guests served by accommodation establishments was estimated at 91,700, an increase of more than 17% compared to the opening night in 2025. Of these, international guests increased by nearly 17% and domestic guests increased by more than 18%. Hotels along the Han River and the coast were almost fully booked from early on.
The total number of flights to Da Nang reached 161, an increase of 14% compared to the same period. The number of visitors to tourist destinations is estimated at over 145,000, with international visitors increasing by nearly 30% compared to the same period in 2025.
These figures reflect what travel businesses have long recognized: DIFF is the "golden keyword" in promotional campaigns for tours to Da Nang every summer.
Ms. Dao Thanh Thao (residing in Hai Chau ward), who works in the hotel and resort booking service in Da Nang, said that immediately before and after the opening night of DIFF 2026, she received many requests for villas and homestays with long-term stays.
Many groups of tourists are interested in experiencing the subsequent fireworks displays, combining it with exploring the local nature, lifestyle, and cuisine. This trend shows that DIFF is promoting a form of quality tourism: longer stays, higher spending, and deeper experiences.
The latest report on top travel trends for summer 2026, released by the digital travel platform Booking.com, based on an analysis of search data for stays from June 1st to August 31st, 2026, also shows that Da Nang continues to maintain its position as the most popular destination for all traveler segments.
Following the spectacular opening ceremony, the audience's attention shifted to the second night of competition, featuring a showdown between the French team and the Z121 Vina Pyrotech team (Vietnam). They eagerly awaited to see how France, with its long-standing tradition of fireworks artistry, would tell the story of its heritage through its language of light, and how the Vietnamese team would respond on their home soil.
As always, with DIFF, a continuous journey fueled by anticipation and excitement unfolds, and Da Nang's summer has only just begun.
