After about 50km, Nguyen Thi That caught up with Nora Jencusova (Slovakia) and remained in the leading group. The Vietnamese cyclist had a good start and showed great determination in two-thirds of the road race. After nearly 80km, Nguyen Thi That was still among the top six riders. Nora Jencusova experienced a chain slippage, and the time lost fixing the problem caused the Slovakian rider to fall behind. The highlight of the race was in the final 50km, when Nguyen Thi That showed signs of fatigue. The leading group included Marianne (Netherlands) and Blanca (Hungary). The Vietnamese female cyclist tried to maintain her position in the top 20, but she was closely marked by her rivals and unable to accelerate. In the final 30km, the leading 12 riders were 45 seconds ahead of the chasing group, and Nguyen Thi That was not among them. The tension intensified in the final 5km, with Kopecky (Belgium) taking the lead while Marianne (Netherlands), Kristen (USA), and Blanca (Hungary) chased closely behind. At the end of the 158km road race, Faulkner Kristen (USA) won the gold medal with a time of 3 hours 59 minutes and 23 seconds. Vos Marianne (Netherlands) won the silver medal with a time of 4 hours and 21 seconds, and Kopecky Lotte (Belgium) won the bronze medal with a time of 4 hours and 21 seconds. Vas Blanca (Hungary) did not win a medal, despite having the same time of 4 hours and 21 seconds as the two competitors above her.
