The ancient house at 87 Ma May Street is one of the characteristic old houses of Hanoi. Built around the end of the 19th century, the house has a total land area of ​​157.6 square meters, with a length of 28 meters, a front width of 5 meters, and a rear width of 6 meters. The house underwent restoration from the end of 1998, completed on October 27, 1999; as a historical landmark of Hanoi's 36 streets. All architectural structures, building materials (entirely wood), and household items have been preserved in their original state. On February 16, 2004, the house at 87 Ma May Street was granted National Heritage status.

In the past, this house was privately owned and has had several owners over the years. With the patronage of the Toulouse City Council (France), the Old Quarter Management Board has been preserving the house since 1999.
