However, traces of the old Hanoi are still preserved in the ancient house at 87 Ma May Street (Hang Buom Ward, Hoan Kiem District). The house, with its antique charm, is a highlight in the heart of Hanoi.

The ancient house at 87 Ma May Street is one of the characteristic old houses of Hanoi. Built around the end of the 19th century, the house has a total land area of ​​157.6 square meters, with a length of 28 meters, a front width of 5 meters, and a rear width of 6 meters. The house underwent restoration from the end of 1998, completed on October 27, 1999; as a historical landmark of Hanoi's 36 streets. All architectural structures, building materials (entirely wood), and household items have been preserved in their original state. On February 16, 2004, the house at 87 Ma May Street was granted National Heritage status.

Many old houses still exist in Hanoi today. However, the old house at 87 Ma May Street has a unique architecture, is well-preserved, and is an unforgettable part of the memories of the local people. In the past, this house was privately owned and has had several owners over the years. With the patronage of the Toulouse City Council (France), the Old Quarter Management Board has been preserving the house since 1999.
