Much damage was caused by rain accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and hail.

According to the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention, thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, and hail occurred in the late afternoon and night of May 2nd in the provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, and Hanoi, injuring 12 people and damaging the roofs of thousands of houses.

Specifically, thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, and hail injured 12 people, including 5 in Thai Nguyen and 7 in Tuyen Quang.

Back home, thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, and hail caused damage to 2,077 houses, with roofs blown off; 2,300 hectares of rice and crops were damaged; 16 schools had their roofs blown off; and 5 cultural centers were damaged or had their roofs blown off.

The thunderstorm, accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and hail, also caused 72 power poles to break or fall, and 50 meters of embankment to collapse.

According to information from the emergency response teams in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms occurred in the area on the evening of May 3rd, causing damage to houses and crops. The provinces are currently assessing and compiling statistics on the damage.
