| To date, over 40% of the spring rice crop in the province has been harvested, mainly concentrated in the southern communes. |
In Song Cong ward, golden rice fields are being harvested simultaneously. The joy of a bountiful harvest is evident on the farmers' faces, mixed with the eagerness to take advantage of every sunny day to race against the changing weather.
This spring, the entire ward planted 196 hectares of rice. Thanks to relatively favorable weather conditions and proper technical care, many rice fields are growing well, with few pest and disease outbreaks, resulting in good yields.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ban, an official at the Song Cong Ward General Service Center, said: The ward has harvested about 55-60% of the area, with an estimated yield of 55-55.5 quintals/hectare. Given the unfavorable weather forecast for the coming days, the local authorities have intensified efforts to promote and encourage farmers to focus on harvesting, striving to complete it before May 25th to allow for timely land preparation and planting of the next crop.
In Phuc Thuan ward, which has a large rice-growing area of over 520 hectares, the harvesting process has been accelerated, with over 90% of the area already harvested. As soon as heavy rain and the risk of storms and floods were forecast, the local authorities promptly notified and mobilized people to concentrate manpower and equipment to quickly harvest the ripe rice crop.

| Farmers in Phuc Thuan ward are delighted with a bountiful spring rice harvest. |
Ms. An Thi Tuyet, from Thuong 1 hamlet, Phuc Thuan ward, shared: "This year, the rice has grown evenly, with large ears and firm grains, resulting in higher yields than the previous season, so the farmers are very happy. However, with the forecast of prolonged heavy rain, everyone is rushing to harvest early to avoid losses."
According to agricultural experts, this spring the entire province planted over 37,700 hectares of rice, meeting and exceeding the plan. To date, the harvested area has reached over 40%; in the southern localities alone, it has reached about 70-80%. In general, the rice is growing well, with low levels of pests and diseases, promising a successful harvest.
However, along with the joy of a bountiful harvest comes the urgent need to ensure timely harvesting. If harvesting is delayed, or if heavy rains or early storms occur, the rice crop risks lodging, reducing yield and quality, and directly affecting the production plans for the summer and winter crops in suitable areas.
Mr. Nguyen Ta, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of Thai Nguyen province, emphasized: Harvesting on schedule is crucial for early and winter crop production areas, contributing to improved economic efficiency, increased income for farmers, and the fulfillment of agricultural production targets for 2026.
In reality, strict adherence to the seasonal schedule is crucial for production efficiency. Harvesting at the right time helps minimize damage from adverse weather conditions, while also allowing for early land preparation, tillage, and planting according to schedule. Given the unpredictable weather, localities are encouraging farmers to increase mechanization to accelerate harvesting.
Amidst the golden fields, the sight of harvesting machines operating continuously, and farmers busily collecting rice and preparing the land for the new crop, demonstrates the proactive spirit of the agricultural sector and farmers in Thai Nguyen in both protecting the achievements of the spring crop and maintaining the planting schedule, creating a foundation for achieving the agricultural sector's growth targets in 2026.
