From supporting technological innovation to training, trade promotion, and industrial development, these initiatives are contributing to improving productivity and quality, expanding consumer markets, and taking the Thai Nguyen tea brand further in domestic and international markets.

In recent years, the industrial promotion program has become an important driving force for the development of the tea industry in Thai Nguyen.

Technological innovation, increasing production value.

Thai Nguyen currently has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea plantations, of which about 23,000 hectares are in production, with an average yield of nearly 130 quintals/hectare. In recent years, the industrial promotion program has become an important resource helping tea production facilities invest in technological innovation, improve product quality, and increase production value.

In 2025, the entire province will implement 24 industrial promotion projects with a total support budget of over 4.66 billion VND. Of these, local industrial promotion will implement 21 projects supporting the application of machinery, trade promotion, training, and product advertising; national industrial promotion will support 3 projects with a total budget of 1.2 billion VND.

In the tea sector alone, six cooperatives, production groups, and individual producers in Dai Phuc, Tan Cuong, and Dong Hy communes received support for investment in processing machinery and equipment, totaling over 1 billion VND.

In Dai Phuc commune, the Long Thuy Dung business household received 120 million VND in support, the Son Dung tea cooperative received 160 million VND, and the Goc Mit hamlet dried tea production and business cooperative received 200 million VND.

In Tan Cuong commune, Nguyen Long Tea Cooperative and Hao Dat Tea Cooperative each received 210 million VND in support. Thinh An Tea Cooperative in Dong Hy commune received 120 million VND in support.

Although the support wasn't substantial, it created a clear ripple effect. From primarily manual processing methods, many establishments have invested in modern tea roasting, rolling, and drying machines, gradually transitioning to semi-automatic production, reducing labor costs, and improving product uniformity and quality.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Viet, Chairman of the Tan Cuong Commune People's Committee, said: The commune currently has 643 hectares of tea plantations, of which 615 hectares are in production with 68 cooperatives, enterprises, and tea processing facilities. Thanks to the support of the industrial promotion program and the promotion of science and technology application and digital transformation, many facilities have invested in modern processing and packaging equipment, contributing to increasing the value of tea production to approximately 2.5 billion VND/hectare/year.

In Dai Phuc commune, by 2025, three tea production facilities will receive a total of 480 million VND in funding to invest in modern processing equipment.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang, Director of Son Dung Tea Cooperative, shared: "The 160 million VND support from the industrial promotion program helped the cooperative invest in modern tea roasting machines and processing equipment, thereby improving production efficiency and stabilizing product quality. Currently, the cooperative maintains three main product lines: Dinh tea, Tom Nou tea, and Moc Cau tea, with annual revenue reaching approximately 6 billion VND."

More importantly, industrial promotion is not simply about providing capital support, but about transforming production mindsets. Tea producers are increasingly paying more attention to quality standards, food safety, and brand building, instead of just focusing on production volume.

Opening up new avenues for tea brands.

Along with technological innovation, the industrial promotion program is opening up new development opportunities for Thai Nguyen tea through support for digital transformation, trade promotion, and market connectivity.

While Thai Nguyen tea was previously mainly consumed through traditional methods, many establishments have now proactively approached the market through e-commerce and digital platforms.

Training courses on digital transformation, cleaner production, branding, and trade promotion have helped businesses and cooperatives change their approach to the market, focusing on investing in packaging, traceability labels, and promoting products in the digital environment.

Many cooperatives have implemented livestreaming sales, built websites, and participated in e-commerce platforms to expand their market reach. Mr. Dao Van Toan, Deputy Director of Hao Dat Tea Cooperative, said: "Besides equipment support, we also participated in training courses on digital transformation, product promotion, and sales in the digital environment."

Currently, the cooperative applies technology in almost all stages from planting, caring, processing to consumption. As a result, the unit has 2 national 5-star OCOP products, with revenue reaching over 50 billion VND in 2025, of which about 30% of the output is sold through e-commerce platforms.

According to Mr. Vu Van Phan, Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Tea Association, in recent years the province has issued many mechanisms and policies to support the development of the tea industry in the 2025-2030 period; at the same time, it has effectively implemented the industrial promotion program to support businesses and cooperatives in investing in machinery, innovating technology, improving product quality and building OCOP brands. Many tea products of the province have achieved 3-5 stars, gradually affirming their position in the market.

Despite continuing to hold its position as a key tea-producing region in the country, Thai Nguyen's tea industry still faces many challenges. The majority of processing facilities operate on a small scale, with limited investment in modern technology, and the proportion of deeply processed products remains low. Meanwhile, market demands are increasingly stringent regarding traceability, green standards, food safety, and sustainable development.

To address these bottlenecks, the province is continuing to refine its industrial promotion mechanisms and policies to create more resources to support businesses, cooperatives, and production households in innovating technology, expanding production, and enhancing competitiveness.

Resolution No. 06/2025/NQ-HĐND, which stipulates the content and expenditure levels for local industrial promotion activities, serves as an important basis for boosting support for the application of advanced equipment, digital transformation training, trade promotion, and brand building.

In implementing Resolution No. 11-NQ/TU on the development of the tea industry in Thai Nguyen province for the period 2025-2030, the province aims to achieve a total product value of approximately 25,000 billion VND by 2030, with a tea cultivation area of about 24,500 hectares and a fresh tea leaf production of over 300,000 tons.

Mr. Duong Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized: In the coming time, the industry and trade sector will continue to prioritize supporting the tea sector associated with digital transformation, green production, and expanding consumption markets to improve the quality, value, and competitiveness of the product.

With the support of industrial promotion policies and the innovative efforts of businesses, cooperatives, and producers, Thai Nguyen tea is gradually elevating its brand, increasing its value, and asserting its position in the market. This is also an important driving force for the development of the rural economy towards a modern and sustainable direction.
