Confidence in growth

Many positive and optimistic signs in the early days of the Year of the Snake have been highlighted, reinforcing confidence and expectations for the socio -economic development of Quang Nam in 2025.

Optimistic beginnings

In 2024, the number of tourists visiting and staying in Quang Nam province increased significantly compared to the same period, both in terms of international and domestic visitors. This is considered a positive sign, forecasting a better development of the province's tourism in 2025.

Specifically, according to the analysis of the Provincial People's Committee, the total number of tourists visiting and staying in Quang Nam during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake is estimated to reach 395,000, an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2024.

Another positive sign is that the province's budget revenue in January 2025 maintained its momentum, reaching approximately 10.7% of the plan. At the launch ceremony for 2025, THACO, the leading enterprise in Quang Nam, inaugurated six major projects, promising a very positive economic growth outlook for the province.

In 2025, Quang Nam province has set a target for economic growth of 9.5-10% and must strive to achieve it, in order to be ready to join the rest of the country in achieving double-digit growth in the coming period.

Seize the opportunity for development.

In a renewed sense of momentum, immediately after the Lunar New Year holiday, the provincial leadership issued strong directives, requiring officials and civil servants to immediately begin implementing their assigned tasks.

At the New Year's briefing conference for the Year of the Snake 2025, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized the key tasks that need to be implemented in February 2025, creating favorable conditions for the completion of the province's development targets and tasks.

Looking ahead, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that all agencies, units, and localities seriously and decisively implement the policy of reorganizing and streamlining the organizational structure, ensuring stable operation by February.

In addition, focus on reviewing and resolving difficulties for businesses, especially regarding public assets and projects that are slow to be implemented or put into use, causing waste. Based on the review, relevant sectors and localities will compile statistics and submit specialized reports to the Provincial Party Standing Committee for consideration and focused direction, with a clear approach to solutions, responsibilities, and tasks in handling and resolving issues.

“The central government is very determined and resolute in removing obstacles for these projects. This is an opportunity for the province; missing it would be a waste of a large resource for investment and development. If we cannot mobilize resources from these wasteful projects, we will not have enough resources to achieve double-digit growth in the coming period. This is very urgent. I request the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial People's Council to direct a review in all localities to compile statistics and report specifically and clearly to the Provincial Party Standing Committee in order to focus on directing this,” said Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet.

Another key task requiring focused effort is addressing bottlenecks in land clearance for project construction. According to the Provincial Party Secretary, this is a major bottleneck, but the proposed solutions have not been strong or decisive enough, thus failing to create momentum for resolution. The Provincial Party Standing Committee's February work program also included a report on this issue. Accordingly, they will consider restructuring the organizations responsible for land clearance and land development; if necessary, they will establish a higher-quality unit to more effectively carry out this task in localities…

A bustling atmosphere of production at the beginning of spring.

Businesses in the province have been continuously starting production at the beginning of the year, right from the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. This start is expected to lead to a stable year of production and business, creating jobs and contributing to the province's development in 2025.

Workers return to the factory.

Throughout the long Tet holiday, Nguyen Thanh Son (from Ha Tinh province), who works at the on-site fire fighting team of Quang Nam - Da Nang Urban and Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company (Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park), remained dedicated to his work alongside his colleagues.

“We worked throughout the Tet holiday, and I didn't go home to visit my hometown; I stayed to work. I'm used to working, and I miss home, but I'll arrange time to visit later. The whole company went back to work on the 6th day of Tet, and everyone came to work with enthusiasm after the holiday with their families. We hope for a year of safe work and that our employees are well taken care of; that's all we need to feel at ease,” said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son.

At Phuoc Ky Nam Joint Stock Company (with factories in Tam Ky and Tien Phuoc), approximately 5,000 workers also resumed work on February 3rd. The atmosphere at the beginning of the new year was lively and full of laughter as the company had orders right at the start of the year, prompting workers to return to work.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quoc, a worker at the factory in Tien Phuoc, said: “At the end of the year, the company fully settled all benefits for the workers, so we were very happy and had a joyful Tet holiday. At the beginning of the year, the company announced that we would resume work because there were orders to complete, so we felt even more secure and confident that we would have plenty of work and good income in the coming year. We only hope that the company will develop and have more orders so that our work will be stable and our lives will be more comfortable.”

New expectations

In major industrial parks in the province such as Tam Thang, Tam Thang 2, Thuan Yen (Tam Ky), Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc (Dien Ban), Bac Chu Lai (Nui Thanh)... businesses have also started resuming production and business activities from February 3rd to the present.

According to Mr. Vu Hong Nhan, Chairman of the Board of Members of Chu Lai Industrial Park Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Cizidco), businesses have resumed operations in both industrial parks invested in by Cizidco.

Mr. Nhan stated: “The company's plan for 2025 includes specific tasks, from completing land compensation and clearance for 9.2 hectares and implementing land lease and infrastructure investment at Bac Chu Lai Industrial Park. At Tam Thang Industrial Park, we will adjust the investment implementation schedule and project, continue supporting Panko Company in completing environmental permits, and simultaneously complete environmental permits for the industrial park. With the remaining vacant land in the industrial park having secured infrastructure, Cizidco will continue to promote investment in new projects, while simultaneously compensating and clearing the remaining 38 hectares and implementing land lease and infrastructure investment.”

At Tam Thang 2 Industrial Park, Capella Quang Nam Joint Stock Company, the investor, stated that there are currently 7 businesses leasing land, of which 4 are operational and 1 is under construction. The total workforce is 686 people. Mr. Nguyen Phuong Chinh, Deputy General Director of Capella Quang Nam Joint Stock Company, informed that in 2025, Tam Thang 2 Industrial Park will attract 8 new projects, expected to create more jobs and add value to the economy. Mr. Chinh said: “Capella has successfully signed a memorandum of understanding with Tinfulong Material Singapore PTE and is currently processing investment certificates. We have also assisted in obtaining investment certificates for OBE Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Yue Teng Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. The company continues to work with secondary investors who have come to survey and discuss land leasing.”

Meanwhile, in the Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park, there are currently 76 projects in operation, providing employment for more than 23,000 workers and making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the province.

Mr. Nguyen Lanh, Director of Quang Nam - Da Nang Urban and Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company, said: “In the industrial park, there are inefficient projects that leave industrial land idle, so we have called for more efficient projects to replace them. In the coming time, we will continue to review them, and for projects that cannot continue, we will negotiate with the business owners in accordance with the law. If they are no longer operational, they will be replaced by more efficient units.”

Creating a favorable investment environment

During his early spring visit and working session with businesses, Comrade Luong Nguyen Minh Triet - Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - encouraged and welcomed the investors of the province's large industrial parks for their efforts in attracting investment, making positive contributions to the provincial budget and socio-economic development, and helping to ensure social welfare in the region.

The Provincial Party Secretary requested that investors selectively attract projects, prioritizing green economy, circular economy, and clean projects. Regarding industrial parks that are already full but have projects operating inefficiently or leaving land idle, investors have promptly made changes and attracted new projects, as demonstrated by the Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park investor, which has proven quite effective.

Regarding the difficulties in calculating land lease prices and clearing land for infrastructure investment, which are crucial for attracting new investment projects in industrial parks, Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet requested relevant units, departments, and the Provincial People's Committee to actively support businesses. He emphasized that if businesses and investors actively propose and schedule meetings with relevant agencies, the provincial authorities must also provide maximum support to businesses in accordance with the law.

Quang Nam continues to stand alongside and support businesses.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung affirmed the enthusiasm and confidence of businesses investing in and having high expectations for Quang Nam.

* Sir, does the 7.1% growth target reflect the confidence of businesses in the leadership and management of the provincial government?

CHAIRMAN OF THE PROVINCIAL PEOPLE'S COMMITTEE LE VAN DUNG:

The province's negative economic growth in 2023 has many causes, but the most significant is that businesses are facing difficulties in production and operations, lacking the conditions to expand investment and markets.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has focused on many solutions to promote production and business, most importantly removing difficulties for businesses; supporting the conditions for the development of all types of economic activities, including FDI enterprises, real estate, trade and services. For cooperatives, the province has also organized dialogues to listen to their concerns and find solutions.

Working together and gradually overcoming difficulties, businesses are recovering their production and business activities, contributing to economic growth. Although difficulties are not yet over, businesses have great confidence in the provincial government's management. As far as I know, many businesses are now ready to invest in expanding production and business, which will be an opportunity for the province's economy to grow and develop.

* What solutions will the province focus on to achieve the 9.5-10% growth target this year, and to aim for double-digit growth in line with the rest of the country, sir?

CHAIRMAN OF THE PROVINCIAL PEOPLE'S COMMITTEE LE VAN DUNG:

The enthusiasm and confidence of businesses in Quang Nam are very high, creating a great opportunity for the province's economic development. The Provincial People's Committee also has high expectations for upcoming economic growth, with the readiness and sufficient basis for confidence to promote double-digit economic growth as set out in the Provincial Party Committee's resolution and directed by the Central Government.

Quang Nam continues to stand alongside and support businesses, especially by promptly resolving difficulties in attracting investment; unlocking resources in society by creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to invest in and develop production and business. Economic growth depends on business development.

Emphasis should be placed on directing and promoting administrative reform, especially the civil service system, and focusing on building a team of officials who truly work alongside businesses and serve the people. Public investment and the disbursement of public investment capital, as well as national target programs, should be implemented decisively and effectively. Simultaneously, efforts should be focused on removing obstacles and combating current wasteful practices. Several unfinished projects and works could cause significant waste for society and need to be addressed, both to combat waste and to unlock resources for economic growth. The mining sector, which still has significant potential, should be promoted. Furthermore, investment support should be provided to the cooperative sector to facilitate the consumption of agricultural products…

Enjoying the village festival

The drums of the festival are beating in the countryside. People from all over are coming to attend the village festival at the beginning of spring, hoping for a year as lively and festive as the festival...

From the ancestral worship ceremonies in traditional craft villages of Quang Nam province, to the processions around the village carrying sacred objects and deities – a characteristic of the Mother Goddess worship tradition – or stopping by the coast to watch the fishing festival... These vibrant festivals attract people from all over.

Customs of Dai Loc region

Many beautiful customs and traditional folk festivals that foster community cohesion in the Dai Loc region are being promoted.

Pilgrimages to spiritual sites such as temples, shrines, and village communal houses continue into each spring. And various festivals, large and small, are held throughout the first and second months of the lunar calendar. Despite the hardships and busyness of daily life, the spiritual and cultural heritage of the community is preserved, reminding everyone to remember their village customs and origins.

Locals in Dai Loc and visitors from all over often visit large temples such as Co Lam, Giac Nguyen, and Ha Tan... Traditionally, people visit temples at the beginning of the year to pick lucky charms and pray for good fortune and peace in the new year. Many temples have pasted red cards on tree branches so that Buddhist devotees and people from all over, after offering incense and paying respects to Buddha, don't forget to pick a card with their New Year's wishes.

The people of Dai Loc district are also closely associated with many festivals that extend throughout the entire month of January. On the 6th, the traditional boat racing festival organized by the People's Committee of Dai Loc district is held vibrantly along the Ai Nghia riverbank, attracting thousands of locals and tourists. This is one of the beautiful spring customs that the people of Dai Loc preserve and maintain, and it has a strong appeal.

The Dai Loc region also has a traditional boat racing festival on Bau Ong (morning of the 8th day of the first lunar month), in Dai Nghia commune; a race on the Thu Bon River through Dai Thang commune, attracting racing teams from communes in Zone B of Dai Loc district, western Duy Xuyen district, and Dien Trung, Dien Phong, and Dien Quang districts (Dien Ban town)... The boat races on the Vu Gia, Thu Bon, and Bau Ong rivers attract hundreds of amateur and professional athletes with competitions in the following categories: peace race, men's main race, and women's main race. The races take place with great enthusiasm amidst the cheers and enthusiastic support of a large audience of locals and tourists from all over.

On the 7th day of the first lunar month, the festival of Lady Ngoc in Dai Dong area is maintained and preserved by the local people. On the 10th day of the first lunar month, the lively festival of Lady Phuong Chao is celebrated by the residents of Hoan My area, Ai Nghia town... The folk festivals of Dai Loc area always have a blend of ceremonial and celebratory elements, creating the vitality of the festivals within the community.

Traditional Crafts Association

Renowned for its many traditional crafts, Hoi An also boasts numerous ceremonies honoring the founders of each craft. In the early days of spring, tourists eagerly participate in the craft ancestral commemoration festival in Hoi An. On the 7th day of the Lunar New Year, Tra Que, considered the "world's best tourist village," is filled with the fragrant aroma of basil and coriander during the Cau Bong festival – a time when locals express their reverence and gratitude to heaven and earth, the deities, and their ancestors who founded the village, and pray for a new year of favorable weather, prosperity, and abundant harvests.

This year, the people of Tra Que village have an added reason for joy with the Best Tourist Village Award presented by the United Nations Tourism Organization. Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, shared that the efforts of the villagers in preserving local cultural values, religious practices, traditional crafts, long-standing lifestyles, and creativity have been recognized.

The Cau Bong Festival and Tra Que vegetable village in general present a beautiful picture of agricultural life and the spirit of farmers in Hoi An. During this festival, people prepare offerings and participate in lively folk activities such as: traditional folk games like Bai Choi, lion and dragon dances, a competition demonstrating how to hoe and plant vegetables, and a culinary competition...

In the area along the right bank of the Thu Bon River, Kim Bong carpentry village is also preparing for its traditional craft festival, which will take place at the same time as the ancestral worship ceremony. This year, the program will be held this weekend (February 8th and 9th, 2025, corresponding to the 11th and 12th days of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake).

At the heart of Kim Bong craft village, the opening ceremony, featuring the "wood carving" ritual, recreates the "Kim Bong village market" and showcases the unique cultural characteristics of Kim Bong village, captivating visitors for a long time. From demonstrations of wood carving, bamboo carving, boat building, mat making, basket weaving, noodle making, demonstrations of net fishing, traps, and fishing nets, to boating experiences and traditional folk games... all will undoubtedly bring a lively atmosphere to the spring festival.

Not to mention, right on the Thu River near the village, traditional boat races begin, accompanied by cheers, splashes of water, and bursts of laughter. As a native of Quang Nam, who hasn't gathered to watch a boat race during the month of January...?

The village festival season, with its lively atmosphere, is like a joyful message carrying positive energy to begin new journeys...

A warm Tet holiday in a new home.

For impoverished families throughout Quang Nam province, this Tet holiday is truly meaningful as they get to celebrate in their new homes.

Having a new house for Tet is enough to make the holiday warm and cozy!

Mr. Alang Xuan (born in 1992, a member of the Co Tu ethnic group), along with his two daughters, residing in Ben Giang village (Ca Dy commune, Nam Giang district), moved into their new house about half a month before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.

Representatives from the Provincial Red Cross and the Nam Giang District Red Cross presented gifts to the family of Mr. Alang Xuan here as they handed over their new house before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake. Photo: TAM DAN

No longer isolated from the village as before, the new house of Alang Xuan and his father was built on family land, surrounded by many lively neighbors.

Previously, when they first got married, Alang Xuan and his wife Alang Thi Chuan built a temporary house made of bamboo and reeds about 1km from the village. The couple were living peacefully and happily with their two young daughters when tragedy struck. In 2023, Alang Xuan's wife unfortunately passed away in an accident, leaving him to raise his children alone.

In 2024, Alang Xuan received support to replace her dilapidated house with a temporary, leaky one, amounting to 60 million VND from Resolution 13 of the Provincial People's Council, and 50 million VND from the Quang Nam Provincial Red Cross Society, sponsored by a benefactor in Da Lat City (Lam Dong). In addition, her eldest daughter's school also donated 8,000 bricks to the family for house construction.

After construction, the house was handed over to the family just before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake. The house has an area of 60m² , including a living room and two bedrooms, a corrugated iron roof, and clean tiled floors.

“Since we got our new house, my son and I have been so happy. Before, seeing my wife and children living in a temporary shelter whenever it rained or was windy, it made me feel so sorry for them. Now that we have a new, sturdy house, we don't have to worry about leaks anymore, and we feel so secure and warm. I am grateful to the government and the community for caring about situations like my family's,” Alang Xuan shared.

“On the 26th day of the lunar year, after receiving my wages for making glue, I took my two daughters to the district to buy each of them a new outfit and a new pair of sandals. Then I bought a few kilograms of pork, along with sweets, melon seeds, and some other items to bring back to prepare for Tet. We just bought a few things to create a festive atmosphere, but for my daughters and me, having a house this Tet is already a great happiness,” Alang Xuan confided.

For the New Year, Alang Xuan wishes for good health and the ability to work hard to raise his two children and provide them with an education. He also wishes to own a cow to supplement his income and generate capital. With some extra money, he plans to complete the house (which is still unpainted) so his children can be happy and motivated to study...

Life has improved since we moved to the new house.

Meanwhile, in Phuoc Gia commune (Hiep Duc district), a mountainous area, this is the second year that the family of Mr. Ho Van Dim (born in 1979) and his wife Ho Thi Be (born in 1991, of the Ca Dong ethnic group) are celebrating Tet in their new house.

In early spring (the 7th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake), upon contacting the family, I learned that both husband and wife had gone to work. Over the phone, Ms. Bé said that her husband was working with glue while she was up in the mountains tending cattle.

In 2023, Ms. Bé's family received 60 million VND from Hiep Duc district to build a new house, funded by the Habitat organization. That same year, the couple also received two breeding cows to help them develop their livelihood and escape poverty.

With the support received, Ms. Bé's family decided to build a new house worth over 120 million VND, of which the family contributed over 60 million VND from land rental and selling buffaloes. “Thanks to the support, my husband and I dared to build a house. This year is the second Tet holiday our whole family is celebrating in our new home. The house isn't big, but it's enough for the children to have more comfortable living and studying space. We are happy to celebrate Tet in a more solid and spacious house than before, where the children and my husband and I each have our own living space,” Ms. Bé shared.

In their new home, filled with love and support, the couple encouraged each other, vowing to strive to escape poverty in the coming years.

According to the Provincial Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses, as of the end of 2024, the entire province had supported the repair and construction of 6,187 out of 10,945 houses, including 4,055 new houses and 2,132 repaired houses, with a total cost of nearly 113.5 billion VND. In 2025, Quang Nam still has about 4,758 houses that need to be completed, with an estimated cost of over 128.7 billion VND… By the end of 2024, the Provincial and District Steering Committees for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses had collected nearly 62 billion VND, including over 49 billion VND donated by 272 individuals, agencies, units, and businesses to the Quang Nam Provincial Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses.
