On May 29, Dr. Huynh Tan Vu, Faculty of Traditional Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, said that pineapple is a tropical fruit, rich in vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants, and can provide adequate nutrition. In addition, pineapple also helps strengthen the immune system and treat indigestion.
However, when eating pineapple, people need to cut off all the eyes, because this part contains some fungi such as candida, if eaten, it is very easy to get poisoned. Pineapple also contains high levels of carbohydrates and sugar, so diabetics need to be careful.
In addition, consuming too much vitamin C in pineapple can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or heartburn. Pineapple has an acidic component, drinking too much will cause tooth decay.
Some people may experience a burning or stinging sensation in their mouth, lips, or tongue after drinking pineapple juice, a side effect caused by the enzyme bromelain. Extremely high doses of bromelain can also cause skin rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, and heavy menstrual bleeding.
People taking antibiotics, anticoagulants, blood thinners, anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, and antidepressants should not eat too much pineapple. Bromelain can be an antiplatelet agent, increasing the risk of excessive bleeding. Therefore, you should avoid using bromelain before and after surgery. Consult a medical professional or nutritionist for specific advice.
Eating unripe pineapple can cause poisoning leading to severe diarrhea and vomiting. Also, avoid eating the core of the pineapple, as the fibers can obstruct the digestive system and cause bloating.
Pineapple contains many organic acids and the enzyme bromelain, which digests protein, which is not good for people with stomach pain and increases inflammation and ulcers in the stomach lining. If you eat fresh pineapple on an empty stomach, the organic acids in pineapple and bromelain will affect the lining of the stomach and intestines, causing nausea and discomfort.
