In 15 years, we built nearly 80 new bridges
Present at Rung Ferry Terminal in Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City, in the last days of March 3, seeing joy spreading everywhere with the event that the ferry terminal will be closed from April 2024, May 30 to make room for the nearly 4 billion VND Pha Rung bridge across Da Bac river connecting Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.
When the Rung Ferry bridge comes into operation, people in Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province and Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city will only take about 5 minutes to cross Da Bac river instead of waiting and sitting on the ferry for 30 - 60 minutes like Currently.
Investing in the construction of Pha Rung Bridge is part of the Port City's long-term strategy to eliminate old, outdated and inconvenient ferry terminals, thereby perfecting the intra-regional and inter-regional transportation system.
The opening for this strategy begins with the construction of Binh bridge to replace Binh ferry connecting the inner city area with Thuy Nguyen district. Binh Bridge was the first and most modern cable-stayed bridge in Hai Phong up to that time (started construction in 2002, inaugurated in 2005).
After Binh bridge, dozens of new bridges have sprung up to replace ferry terminals or old, degraded bridges, including Khue bridge, Quang Thanh bridge, Rao bridge, Hoang Van Thu bridge, and Niem bridge. , Vo Nguyen Giap bridge... Especially the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai bridge across the sea connecting Cat Hai island with the mainland with a total investment of nearly 12.000 billion.
According to information from the Hai Phong Department of Transport, in the period 2015 - 2020 alone, the city has added 46 new bridges with a total investment of more than 44.000 billion VND. In the period 2020 - 2030, there are expected to be about 30 new bridges. Thus, in just 15 years, Hai Phong City has invested and is expected to invest in building nearly 80 bridges.
It is expected that by 2025, in Hai Phong City, there will be only one Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry route connecting Cat Ba island with the mainland. According to experts, building a bridge across the sea to replace this ferry route is unlikely to be feasible not because of economic reasons but due to factors related to maritime channels, geological conditions as well as the protection of the Reserve. World biosphere Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized by UNESCO in 2004.
Create motivation for intra-regional and inter-regional socio-economic development
In the past 10 years or so, the construction of new bridges in Hai Phong City has not only created favorable traffic conditions, but also created a driving force for intra-regional and inter-regional socio-economic development.
On the Lach Tray river route, 3 bridges: Rao, Vo Nguyen Giap, Niem (it is expected that there will be an additional Rao 3 bridge), have been opening up new development space for Duong Kinh district, Kien An district, Do Son district and Kien Thuy district. It is expected that by 2030, Kien Thuy district from a purely agricultural countryside will become a district directly under Hai Phong city.
Along the Cam River route, two bridges, Binh and Hoang Van Thu (Nguyen Trai bridge will be started in 2), have breathed new life into Thuy Nguyen district. It is expected that in 2024, the Political - Administrative center of Hai Phong City will move to the new urban area North of Cam River in Thuy Nguyen district. Also in this year, Thuy Nguyen will become a city under Hai Phong City.
With 2 districts of Tien Lang and Vinh Bao far away from the inner city area, since Khue bridge, Han bridge and Dang bridge came into operation, 50 communes and towns are "changing their skin and flesh" every day. The two districts have reached the new rural finish line and are progressing in the process of building model new rural areas.
The longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam named Dinh Vu - Cat Hai connects traffic from the mainland with Lach Huyen deep-water port and Xuan Cau non-tariff zone project, not only promoting Hai Phong's seaport strengths, but also brought great changes to Cat Hai island.
The vast salt fields, salty and acrid with the taste of the sweat of the salt farmers on Cat Hai island, have given way to large projects and works with the symbol of the Vinfast Automobile Factory, which annually contributes to Hai Phong's budget. trillions of dong.
In addition, Quang Thanh bridge connecting with Hai Duong, Lai Xuan bridge, Pha Rung bridge, Bach Dang bridge connecting with Quang Ninh, bridge over Thai Binh river on the coastal road connecting with Thai Binh, have helped the City. Hai Phong has become one of the centers and growth poles of the Northern Coastal region.
Bridges not only contribute to improving the intra-regional and inter-regional transportation system, but also help Hai Phong become more attractive in the eyes of investors, especially FDI investors. According to information from the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, in the period 2020 - 2023, FDI capital into the locality is constantly increasing, from 1,4 billion USD in 2020 to 2,9 billion USD in 2021, 3,2 billion USD in 2023. and reach a record level of 3,5 billion USD in 2023.
