On May 6th, Professor and Doctor of Science Dang Luong Mo passed away after a period of treatment at Military Hospital 175 (Ho Chi Minh City), at the age of 90.

Upon receiving the sad news, many colleagues, fellow scientists , students, and others from all over expressed their condolences to the talented and respected scientist.

In his final days, Professor Dang Luong Mo still sat by his laptop, exchanging work-related information with scientists around the world .

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, extended his deepest condolences to the family: "Although we know that 'birth, aging, illness, and death' are the laws of the universe, this is truly a great loss for the family and the Vietnamese semiconductor community. The professor's dedication to the semiconductor industry in general and to the future of Vietnam in particular is truly noble and admirable. That spirit, that fire, that aspiration will transcend even the laws of the universe."

About 20 years ago, Mr. Cuong first had the opportunity to meet Professor Dang Luong Mo – this was also the period when the professor decided to return to Vietnam to settle down. During a visit to his family, Mr. Cuong was impressed by the design and layout of the house. The house was small but very cozy, with a fish pond in front and many green plants surrounding it. Inside the living room, many certificates and mementos from Professor Mo's scientific research journey were displayed.

For Mr. Cuong, those early conversations about semiconductors and integrated circuits were like a breath of fresh air, igniting his passion and guiding him towards a career in science and technology, especially in the semiconductor field, for young people like him.

"Subsequent encounters with Professor Mo, whether brief or in-depth discussions, left a profound impression on me. It seems that time may have only grayed his hair, but the flame of passion and the desire to contribute to Vietnam's semiconductor industry in his heart still burns brighter and more intensely," Mr. Cuong shared emotionally.

Mr. Le Trong Kha, CEO of LeKhaMart and a former student of the Civil and Industrial Engineering department at the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), shared his heartfelt thoughts about his respected teacher: "Every year I would visit him to wish him a Happy New Year and chat with him, but now I no longer have the opportunity. He was a very exemplary, honest, and dedicated teacher who devoted himself wholeheartedly to science. This loss is not only a personal tragedy but also a collective loss for Vietnamese science."

Although he didn't have many opportunities to meet Professor Dang Luong Mo in person, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Yen, General Director of CoAsia Semi Vietnam, also wrote a very touching article sharing his memories with the professor.

He recounted that since 2008, while working at Infineon in Singapore, he had known Professor Mo through an online email group (a group bringing together Vietnamese people working in semiconductor microchips around the world). It wasn't until 2014, when he returned to Vietnam to build the chip design division for FPT, that he had the opportunity to collaborate with the Integrated Circuit Design Research and Training Center (ICDREC) and meet Professor Mo, who was then an advisor to ICDREC.

In 2019, during a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, through a former student of Professor Mo, he invited the professor and his wife to lunch. The meeting took place at a time when the professor had just finished his memoir, so the two mainly talked about the life of the esteemed scientist.

"Meeting him in person for the first time felt like reuniting with an old friend, because I had previously exchanged professional knowledge with Professor Mo online for a long time. From 2019 until now, we have maintained the habit of sharing and interacting with each other through social media and email, only meeting the professor a few times at events related to the semiconductor industry," Mr. Yen said.

Professor Dang Luong Mo, Doctor of Science, has been awarded numerous prestigious titles and prizes, including the Third-Class Labor Medal, the Vietnam Honor Award, and the Ho Chi Minh City Badge. He is an Academician of the New York Academy of Sciences, a Senior Member of the IEEE, and has been internationally recognized on the list of World Famous People. Recently, the professor was listed among the top 60 outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the construction, protection, and development of Ho Chi Minh City, and among the top 50 outstanding overseas Vietnamese awarded by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City.
