On May 6, Professor - Doctor of Science Dang Luong Mo breathed his last after a period of treatment at Military Hospital 175 (HCMC), at the age of 90.

Upon receiving the sad news, many colleagues, friends, scientists, students... everywhere expressed their condolences to the talented and respected scientist.

In his last days, Professor Dang Luong Mo still sat at his laptop to discuss work with scientists around the world.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, sent his deepest condolences to the family: "Although we know that "birth - aging - illness - death" is the law of the universe, this is truly a great loss for the family and the Vietnamese semiconductor community. The professor's dedication to the semiconductor industry in general and to the future of Vietnam is truly noble and admirable. That spirit, that fire, that aspiration will overcome the laws of the universe."

About 20 years ago, Mr. Cuong had the opportunity to meet Professor Dang Luong Mo for the first time - this was also the period when the professor decided to return to Vietnam to settle down. Having the opportunity to visit his family, Mr. Cuong was impressed with the design and layout of the house. The house is small but very warm, with a fish pond in front of the entrance, surrounded by many green trees. Inside the living room, there are many certificates of merit and souvenirs throughout Professor Mo's scientific research journey.

For Mr. Cuong, those conversations about semiconductors and microchips were like a breath of fresh air, arousing his passion and guiding his career path in science and technology, especially in the semiconductor field, for young people like him.

"The subsequent reunions with Professor Mo, whether for a short time or for a deep exchange, left me with a deep impression. It seems that time can only make his hair turn gray, but the flame of enthusiasm and aspiration to contribute to the Vietnamese semiconductor industry in his heart still burns brighter and stronger" - Mr. Cuong emotionally shared.

Mr. Le Trong Kha, CEO of LeKhaMart, a former student of civil and industrial construction at the University of Technology (VNU-HCM), choked up as he shared about his respected teacher: "Every year I come to wish him a happy new year and talk to him, but now I no longer have the chance. He was a very exemplary teacher, honest and devoted to science. This loss is not only a personal pain but also a common loss for Vietnamese science."

Although he did not have many opportunities to meet Professor Dang Luong Mo in person, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Yen, General Director of CoAsia Semi Vietnam, also wrote a very touching article sharing his memories with the professor.

He said that in 2008, when he was working at Infineon in Singapore, he got to know Professor Mo through an online email group (a group of Vietnamese people working on semiconductor chips around the world). It was not until 2014, when he returned to Vietnam to build a chip design division for FPT, that he had the opportunity to cooperate with the ICDREC Research and Training Center (ICDREC) and met Professor Mo, who was then an advisor to ICDREC.

In 2019, during a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, through a former student of Mr. Mo, he invited the professor and his wife to lunch. The meeting took place at the time when the professor had just finished his memoir, so the two mainly talked about the life of the respected scientist.

"The first time we met in person, I felt like I was meeting an old friend, because I had a long time of exchanging expertise with Professor Mo online. From 2019 until now, we still keep the habit of sharing and interacting with each other via social networks and email, only meeting the professor a few times at events related to the semiconductor industry" - Mr. Yen said.

Professor - Doctor of Science Dang Luong Mo has been awarded many prestigious titles and awards such as the Third Class Labor Medal, the Honor of Vietnam Award, the Ho Chi Minh City Badge; is an Academician of the New York Academy of Sciences, a Senior Member of IEEE and is internationally recognized in the list of World Famous People. Recently, the professor was listed in the top 60 outstanding individuals with outstanding contributions to the cause of building, protecting and developing Ho Chi Minh City and the top 50 outstanding overseas Vietnamese awarded by the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
