Small corners that nurture dreams

Along with improving the quality of teaching and learning, many schools in Thai Nguyen province have paid attention to developing students' spiritual life through "small corners" of creativity and sharing.

Colors tell stories

Learning to read and write is the foundation, but for comprehensive education , schools need to create space for students' emotions, creativity and independent thinking. The Fine Arts Club of Phu Xa Primary School (Tich Luong Ward) was established in 2023 and currently has nearly 40 members.

Under the dedicated guidance of Mr. Nguyen Giang Thanh, Art - Music teacher, children learn to appreciate beauty, freely imagine and express the world around them with their own colors and drawings.

In the small room, the faint scent of watercolors mixed with clear laughter. Innocent paintings were displayed around the classroom, telling stories about the Mid-Autumn Festival, the school, the fields, the village roads… Each work not only showed ingenuity and creativity but also was where the children expressed their childhood joys and pure dreams.

Giap Anh Khoi, a 4A student, innocently said: I have loved drawing since I was little. I want to draw beautiful pictures to give to everyone.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, Principal of Phu Xa Primary School, establishing clubs is an important part of the school's educational program. Ms. Huyen affirmed: The Fine Arts Club helps students develop their talents, nurture their passions and create more joy in every day.

Not only is it a playground to prepare for the festivals, the two weekly activities of the club are also a time for children to immerse themselves in colors, to let their small dreams gradually take shape, in their clear eyes and dreamy hands.

Nurture a love of books

If the colorful Art corner helps little hands to let their souls drift into a dream, then the "Classroom Library Corner" is a peaceful space that nurtures the knowledge and love of books of students at Dong Quang Primary School (Phan Dinh Phung Ward).

At Dong Quang Primary School, each classroom has its own “library corner”. On the shelves, comics, life skills books, and science books are neatly arranged. These small spaces have opened up a vast world for the children, where imagination, love of learning, and dreams can sprout.

During recess, students chattered around the bookshelf, choosing their favorite books. Some sat in small groups reading to each other, while others found a quiet corner by the window to indulge in stories about the world around them.

Chattering with friends reading books under the tree, Ngo Minh Khue, a student of class 2C, shared: I really like the library in the corner of the classroom. My friends and I can choose books and read them right in the classroom. Reading books helps me know more things and learn more.

Since 2013, the Classroom Library Corner model has been deployed by Dong Quang Primary School and has spread widely. Currently, the whole school has 24 classes with 784 students, each class maintains its own reading corner.

For Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Toan, homeroom teacher of class 2C, the Classroom Library Corner not only inspires a passion for reading but also serves as a bridge between teachers, students and parents. This idea is enthusiastically supported by parents. Many parents choose books to bring to class, some even give many books worth nearly two million VND.

In Thai Nguyen province today, many schools have focused on developing students' spiritual lives through various extracurricular models: art clubs, reading corners, creative experience hours, cultural festivals... These activities create more interest in learning, making each day at school exciting and meaningful.
