Set an example for the people to follow.
These days, the atmosphere in the hamlets of An Trach commune is bustling with activity as many community projects and tasks are being urgently completed. In Anh Dung hamlet, Mr. Huynh Thanh Doi, Head of the Veterans Association branch in the hamlet, shared that the campaign to beautify and clean up the environment in the hamlet is always linked to practical actions serving the lives of the people.
From mobilizing efforts to repair dilapidated roads to facilitate travel for residents and students, to building green hedges and launching environmental cleanup campaigns to create a bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape... all have been implemented with a high sense of responsibility and the consensus of the people. Veterans' association officials and members have always been the first to act, setting an example for the people to follow.
Following the administrative reorganization, the Party Committee and the An Trach commune government focused on mobilizing various resources to invest in rural transportation infrastructure. In Anh Dung hamlet alone, 3-4 new, well-built bridges have been constructed, contributing to the completion of the inter-hamlet transportation system.
The new bridge in An Trach commune facilitates travel for local people and contributes to fulfilling the criteria for building new rural areas.
“The completion of public works projects in general, and traffic bridges in particular, not only improves people's lives but also strengthens the trust of the people and veterans' association members in the leadership of the Party and the administration of the government. This trust continues to flourish, motivating us to be exemplary and work alongside the locality to build an increasingly prosperous rural area,” said Mr. Vo Thanh Nhon, Chairman of the Veterans' Association of An Trach commune.
Besides actively building new rural areas, the Veterans Association of An Trach commune also focuses on economic development and increasing income for its members. In particular, the model of raising mud crabs, shrimp, and other crustaceans in extensive farming is considered a suitable direction for local conditions: easy to care for, low risk, and relatively low investment costs.
According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Doi, veteran association officials and members must set a good example by leading the way. When people see clear results, they will trust and follow suit. The spirit of "matching words with actions" has helped many economic models to be gradually replicated, creating more livelihoods for the people.
In Thanh Thuong A hamlet, veteran Ho Thanh Hung is a vivid example of diligence and overcoming difficulties. With nearly 3 acres of land, he rotates crops, growing okra, cucumbers, pumpkins, and other vegetables year-round. "I work non-stop, earning about 50-60 million VND per year," he expressed.
The vegetable farming model of war veteran Ho Thanh Hung (second from the left) brings in an income of 50-60 million VND per year.
The orchards laden with fruit and the lush green vegetable plots not only provide a stable income for the people but also reflect the effectiveness of the local government's policies supporting production and restructuring crop and livestock farming. More importantly, they are proof of the resilience and self-reliance of the soldiers of yesteryear in peacetime.
The achievements of the Veterans Association of An Trach commune lie not only in targets and figures, but also in the spirit of solidarity and the exemplary conduct of each member. From small tasks like cleaning up and planting green hedges, to larger projects like building bridges, constructing roads, and developing economic models, the mark of the veterans is evident everywhere.
New determination in a new phase
Entering a new term, the Veterans Association of An Trach commune has set the motto: upholding the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, unity - exemplary conduct - innovation - effectiveness. In that spirit, the association has set 13 key targets to strive for.
First and foremost, 100% of the members are steadfast and firm in their political ideology and ethics; 100% of the association's officials have received training on resolutions, professional development, and expertise according to their respective levels; and over 75% of former soldiers residing in the locality participate in activities at the clubs.
Simultaneously, the association strives to maintain its annual performance in fulfilling its tasks well; 95% of members are exemplary; 95% of veteran families meet the standards of a cultured family; and 95% of members do not violate the law or engage in social vices. Each year, the number of poor households among members is reduced by 1-2; and resources are mobilized to build and repair at least 3 houses for members facing housing difficulties by the end of the term.
In economic development, 100% of war veterans and former soldiers of working age who are still healthy receive advice, guidance, and support in finding employment; each year there is at least one project or task named after "War Veterans" and by the end of the term, one outstanding production and business solidarity group is established.
The shrimp and crab farming model implemented by war veteran association members in An Trach commune helps develop family economies and makes a positive contribution to poverty reduction.
In particular, the association strives for 100% of its members to be exemplary in renovating neglected gardens, building green hedges or concrete fences, and taking the lead in building new rural areas. These seemingly dry figures are actually concrete commitments, demonstrating the political determination and sense of responsibility of the An Trach Commune Veterans Association in the new phase.
Mr. Vo Thanh Nhon added: "Veterans are not only witnesses to the changes in their homeland, but also a force that preserves and spreads the people's trust in the Party and the government through concrete and practical actions. When members are exemplary, their families are cultured, and their economies are stable, then the movement at the grassroots level will be sustainable."
In the current development of An Trach commune, the soldiers of yesteryear have become a source of spiritual support in every hamlet. They quietly contribute, persistently campaign, and dedicate themselves to the movement, like small but enduring sparks, warming and illuminating hope in the countryside.
