While seniors like Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong have retired to become coaches, 34-year-old shooter Ngo Huu Vuong is still working hard to conquer the 4th consecutive ASIAD. His utmost efforts were duly rewarded with the first silver medal for himself as well as for Vietnamese sports at the 19th ASIAD.

With a stable competitive state, Ngo Huu Vuong brought joy to fans when he won the silver medal in the 10m mobile target air rifle event, losing to the gold medalist Dwi Putra (Indonesia) by 7 points and ranking above strong players from South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Ngo Huu Vuong said that after 2 ASIADs only winning bronze medals, at this Asian Games, he was very happy and proud to have an excellent achievement. "I have been constantly working hard in daily training, trying to accumulate every time I have the opportunity to compete, so I am very happy with the results I have achieved. This great achievement is a great motivation for me and my teammates to compete in the mixed air rifle event on September 26," Ngo Huu Vuong shared.

It was a bit regretful when Huu Vuong and his teammates Cong Dau and Tuan Anh missed out on a medal in the team event when they only finished fourth, just 1 point behind the gold medal-winning team, Korea. "It's hard to describe our regret. We tried our best but still lacked a little luck," Huu Vuong shared. Hopefully, this "little bit of luck" will accompany him and his teammates in today's competition (September 26) to help the Vietnamese sports delegation successfully hunt for the first gold medal at ASIAD 19.

In taekwondo, it was quite sad when former Asian champion in the women's 49 kg competition, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, after beating the Timor Leste fighter 2-1 in the round of 16, lost painfully to the Uzbekistan fighter Mannopova 0-2 in the quarterfinals. Also facing a formidable opponent, the taekwondo team of the host China, in the semi-finals of the mixed team competition, Bac Thi Khiem - Pham Ngoc Cham - Ly Hong Phuc - Pham Minh Bao Kha lost deeply with a score of 18 - 88 and only won the bronze medal. In fencing, Vietnam's number 1 fencer Vu Thanh An also stopped in the knockout round of the saber event due to a recurrence of a knee injury.

WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE OF SWIMMINGER NGUYEN HUY HOANG

The highlight of the third competition day (September 26) of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 19th Asian Games was the performance of swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang in the 1,500m freestyle final. At the 18th Asian Games in 2018, Huy Hoang won a silver medal, and this time he is expected to make a breakthrough. In addition to Huy Hoang, the Vietnamese swimming team also has Tran Hung Nguyen and Nguyen Quang Thuan competing in the 400m medley. In e-sports, the Vietnamese team competed for a bronze medal with Thailand in the joint event. In fencing, Nguyen Tien Nhat and Nguyen Phuoc Den competed in the sabre event. In tennis, Ly Hoang Nam competed for a ticket to the men's singles quarterfinals with Hong Seong-chan (Korea). In chess, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Le Tuan Minh (men); Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Vo Thi Kim Phung (women) competed in the key games 5, 6 and 7 of the individual rapid chess event.
