The last days of this year are coming to an end with a series of movies of varying quality. Hollywood has a series of worth-watching movies but there are still many bad movies. As usual, Variety has selected 2 lists of the worst movies of 2023, and many of the names are not difficult to guess.
Asteroid City , the film competing for the Palme d'Or, is on the list of worst films of 2023
Writer Owen Gleiberman's first five films include Ghosted (directed by Dexter Fletcher), Asteroid City (directed by Wes Anderson), Your Place or Mine (directed by Aline Brosh McKenna), Magic Mike's Last Dance (directed by Steven Soderbergh) and Heart of Stone (directed by Tom Harper).
Among these films, Asteroid City competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received positive reviews from both audiences and film critics. It is not difficult to understand why Heart of Stone and Ghosted are on the list because these are all works whose quality did not really win over audiences, despite the good audiovisuals and the cast being Hollywood A-list stars.
The Flash is a superhero flop this year
The rest of Peter Debruge's list is still full of worthy films and surprising inclusions. The list includes Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (director: Rhys Frake Waterfield), Carmen (director: Benjamin Millepied), Paint (director: Brit McAdams), Caligula: The Ultimate Cut (director: Tinto Brass) and The Flash (director: Andy Muschietti).
Overall, The Flash It's not the worst movie of 2023, it can even be said that this is a pretty good entertainment movie, except for some elements, like the movie's special effects, which are not really good. If compared to other superhero movies like The Marvels or Ant-Man 3 , The Flash , in terms of quality, is not necessarily worse.
Horror film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey was criticized for its cinematic quality.
As for the rest of the films on Peter Debruge's list, the choices are hardly surprising, such as Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey , a slasher horror film inspired by the cute Pooh bear by author EH Shepard. A series of critics rated this film as so bad that it was... unacceptable because it created no cinematic value.
