A group of young people with only 7 members, but over time, they have been persistently and persistently bringing love, warmth and sharing difficulties, helping poor children and people in the highlands of Lao Cai . That is a volunteer group called "Green Volunteer".
The “Green Volunteer” group was established in September 2016, led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Giang. Over the past 7 years, Ms. Giang and her members have carried out nearly 30 volunteer programs according to the annual plan and a number of programs according to events and incidents.
Talking about the group's activities, Ms. Kieu Giang confided: Society develops, people's lives also change in a modern direction. But for people in the highlands and ethnic minority areas, life is still very difficult. Besides the attention and investment of the Party and the State, there is still a need for "Generous Benefactors" to help and share their difficulties. With "Green Charity", love is giving, sharing, bringing to the disadvantaged and disadvantaged "green shoots of hope" through practical and meaningful work.
Sharing the same ideas and goals, the 7 young people in the group do not hesitate to travel long distances, cold winters or hot summers, regularly maintaining volunteer programs and activities towards the lives of those with many difficulties in the highlands of Muong Khuong, Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai...
“We are all working in government agencies and units, so arranging time and work to carry out charity programs, especially large-scale ones in mountainous areas, is not simple. The motivation for us to do that is probably the expectant eyes, happy smiles, emotional tears, and speechless handshakes of the people. I, like the members of the group, do good deeds not to wait for thanks, but from the heart, from the hearts between people” - Nguyen Duy Ha Ly, a member of the “Green Charity” group confided.
Just like that, over the past 7 years, thousands of warm clothes, warm blankets, soft mattresses, notebooks, school bags, pens, boots, sandals, boxes of instant noodles and tons of rice... have been delivered to people, children and poor students in many mountainous areas of Lao Cai. The group has sponsored a student with difficult circumstances in Thao Chu Phin commune (Si Ma Cai district) for 3 years, with a budget of 3 million VND/year for purchasing school supplies, clothes, books, notebooks...
The group's activities not only rely on calling for community support through social networks, but also on contributions from members and seeking funding from programs and projects of organizations. The project "Lighting up the border area" consisting of 90 solar lights installed in Lu Di San village, San Chai commune and Dao Dan San village, Nan San commune of Si Ma Cai district in June 2021 is one of such sponsored projects. This is a project that the leader of the "Green Volunteer" group has gone through many implementation steps and rigorous review rounds before being accepted by the European Union - EU for financial support, with a total cost of more than 224 million VND (local counterpart capital is 30% supported by the "Green Volunteer" group, Si Ma Cai Border Guard Station and some benefactors).
“The group’s goal is to have electricity in residential areas so that people can travel, live together, and patrol the border conveniently. Through this, we hope to change people’s awareness of using renewable energy in a cost-effective and efficient way,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Giang.
As a resident of Lu Di San village, Mrs. Giang Thi Ve happily said: Since the village has installed solar lights, people can easily go to get water to work in the fields, whether late at night or early in the morning, and in the evening children have a playground. We will protect the project well for long-term use.
The nearly 1.5 billion VND that the “Green Charity” group has raised in the past 7 years is not a large number, but it is the dedication of young people of the new era to the community. Those warm hearts have contributed to beautifying the qualities, as well as the thousand-year-old moral traditions of the Vietnamese people, which is the spirit of “mutual love and mutual assistance”, “the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves”.
