Humanity and affection
In recent days, the handover ceremony of new houses in the program of "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in Ben Cat City has been continuously held in communes and wards. Mr. Truong Minh Tri, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chanh Phu Hoa Ward, said: "From the beginning of 2025, the locality has reviewed the poor, near-poor households, and policy families with housing difficulties. For households without land, the ward has coordinated with the People's Committee of Ben Cat City to support the purchase of social housing. Regarding the construction and repair of houses for households with land, there are a total of 8 households. The locality has actively mobilized socialized resources and the "For the Poor" Fund to build houses for people. The locality is speeding up the construction of 3 houses for poor households. In about a week, the houses will be handed over and the program will be completed."
The program of “eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses” not only brings joy and happiness but also opens up a bright future for families with housing difficulties. Ms. Le Thi Them, 62 years old, residing in Quarter 8, Chanh Phu Hoa Ward, confided: “In a few days, the local authorities will hold a ceremony to hand over a new house to me. Before, I never dared to dream that I would have a house like everyone else.”
For many years, Mrs. Them has lived alone in a rented house. Every day, she goes to a local company to help with cooking, earning about 6 million VND per month. Through local efforts, Mrs. Them was given about 60 square meters of land by her nephew to build a house...
For many years, the family of Vo Thi Thanh Truc, Ben Giang Hamlet, Phu An Commune, Ben Cat City, has lived in a temporary house with a thatched roof. Although Truc and her husband are young, not yet 40 years old, they have 5 children, making life quite difficult. “In the past, I helped my husband work at the company to earn income. Recently, the two children have been sick all the time, so I had to quit my job to stay home and take care of them. The family's livelihood depends on my husband's salary of about 10 million VND/month. That amount of money is only enough to cover daily meals,” said Truc.
Recently, when the local authorities handed over the house and gave her many household items, Ms. Truc shed tears. “I thank the authorities at all levels very much. The house not only brings a stable life, shelter from the sun and rain, but also opens up a bright future for the children, especially mentally. From now on, my children will no longer feel inferior to their friends when they have to live in a rickety thatched house like before,” Ms. Truc said emotionally.
Efforts for the poor
In Binh Duong , responding to the emulation movement to join hands to "eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" launched by the Prime Minister, in late March 2025, 9 districts and cities in the area simultaneously held groundbreaking ceremonies to build houses for poor households and those with housing difficulties. Thereby, leaders at all levels in the province directed and mobilized all resources so that the program could soon reach the finish line according to the set plan.
To complete the repair and construction of 470 new houses for people with housing difficulties in about 3 months, the Steering Committee for "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" at all levels in the province has focused on mobilizing human resources, resources, and contributions from businesses, philanthropists, and construction companies in communes and wards. In particular, the role of grassroots cadres has made a significant mark. Specifically, many households in the process of implementing the program did not have land to build houses, commune and ward cadres focused on mobilizing relatives and families to donate land and even provided additional support for construction costs.
For households without land and without relatives to support land, the Steering Committee at district and city levels considers good practices. Typically, in Ben Cat City and Tan Uyen City, they have mobilized social resources to buy social housing for the subjects, up to dozens of houses. Some localities such as Tan Uyen City and Di An City have also completed the program before April 30.
On the day of handing over new houses to the beneficiaries, most communes and wards also mobilized resources to give the households many valuable gifts such as fans, rice cookers, beds, mats, cabinets, tables, etc. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Dang Commune, Tan Uyen City, shared: "Bach Dang Commune is a locality of Tan Uyen City that has reached the finish line early in the program of "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses". However, to better care for the lives of poor and disadvantaged households, the locality still has a lot of work to do. That is to continue to review households in difficult circumstances, children without jobs, low income to have plans to support, help, increase income, so that every family can have a relatively full life".
