Through these foreign language playgrounds, rural children and teenagers hone their skills, opening doors to new knowledge and confidently integrating with international peers.

Searching for foreign language talent

In late August, Phu Ninh commune became bustling with activity as the first-ever "Foreign Language Star 2025" competition was held. This competition provided a platform for children to gain experience, hone their skills, and open the door to integration right from their rural village.

At the competition, many young contestants took to the stage for the first time, showcasing their confidence and passion for learning through public speaking performances in three languages: English, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Many children surprised the audience with their confident bilingual, or even trilingual, presentations, delivered fluently and persuasively.

Among them, Nguyen Van Khai (11 years old, Phu Ninh commune) was the most outstanding student, winning first prize in the competition. With his mature and emotional speech, Khai left a deep impression on the judges and the audience.

Sharing his thoughts after winning, Khai confided: “At first I was very nervous, but when I received such enthusiastic encouragement, I felt I gained more strength and confidence. I hope to learn more foreign languages in the future to explore the world and broaden my knowledge.”

More than just a competition, "Foreign Language Star" opens up a new journey for rural youth: honing language skills, learning to command the stage, building confidence in front of crowds, connecting with friends, and nurturing dreams of reaching further.

According to Mr. Duong Quoc Bao, Founder of ABO Foreign Language Center (Phu Ninh commune), the "Foreign Language Star" competition is an opportunity for children in the area to shine. Many children have never been on stage before, but thanks to this competition, they have had the chance to express themselves and build confidence.

"In the past, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to participate in competitions, so I understand that learning a foreign language in rural areas is very difficult. I hope the competition will not only discover talented individuals but also inspire local students with a spirit of learning, courage in overcoming challenges, and the nurturing of beautiful dreams," Mr. Bao expressed.

Connecting young people

Behind the "Foreign Language Star 2025" award lies the persistent journey of many years by teacher Duong Quoc Bao and his colleagues at the ABO Foreign Language Center. Driven by the aspiration to bring knowledge back to serve his homeland, Mr. Bao has persistently organized numerous academic events and exchange programs with international tourists in Hoi An…

Earlier, Mr. Bao's project, "Teaching English for Free to Poor Children in Quang Nam, " won second prize nationwide at the "2019 Student Volunteer Ideas Competition" (organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association). Through these activities and programs, many children in rural areas have had the opportunity to access new knowledge, develop skills, and nurture their dreams.

These efforts by teacher Duong Quoc Bao and his colleagues are gradually creating a vibrant foreign language learning movement right from the rural villages. Not only are these activities receiving support from students and parents, but they are also gaining the attention and cooperation of local organizations.

According to Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Secretary of the Phu Ninh Commune Youth Union, the work of improving foreign language skills and international integration is increasingly being implemented synchronously and effectively from the central level to the grassroots. Many activities have been organized effectively, practically, and diversely, targeting a wide range of young people; creating a positive impact and results, becoming branded programs, contributing to spreading the spirit of learning and developing integration skills for the younger generation, especially teenagers.

In Phu Ninh, competitions like the Foreign Language Star or PhuNinh's Got Talent not only provide opportunities for young people to showcase their artistic talents, presentation skills, and foreign language proficiency, but also foster self-confidence and creativity. These competitions both motivate learning and encourage the development of communication skills and global thinking among the younger generation of Phu Ninh.

“The Phu Ninh Commune Youth Union has identified improving foreign language proficiency and soft skills for young people as one of its key tasks. In the coming time, the commune's Youth Union will organize regular foreign language activities, connect with schools and foreign language centers to practice soft skills through experience, apply digital technology , and integrate them into the Youth Union's movements. This will help local young people confidently integrate and secure their future,” shared Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh.
