From foreign language playgrounds, rural children and teenagers are trained in skills, opening doors to new knowledge to confidently integrate with international friends.

Searching for foreign language talent

At the end of August, Phu Ninh commune became bustling when the “Foreign Language Star 2025” contest was held for the first time. This is a playground that creates opportunities for children to experience, practice their bravery and open the door to integration right from the countryside.

At the competition, many young faces stepped onto the stage for the first time, expressing their confidence and passion for learning through speaking competitions in three languages: English, Chinese and Vietnamese. Many children surprised the audience when they confidently presented in two languages, even three languages, fluently and convincingly.

Among them, Nguyen Van Khai (11 years old, Phu Ninh commune) was the brightest face when he won the first prize of the contest. With his mature and emotional speech, Khai left a deep impression on the judges and the audience.

Sharing after winning, Khai confided: “At first I was very nervous, but when I received enthusiastic cheers, I felt more empowered and confident. I hope to learn many other foreign languages in the future to explore the world and broaden my knowledge.”

Not only a place for competition, “Foreign Language Star” also opens up a new journey for rural youth: practicing language skills, learning how to master the stage, being confident in front of a crowd, connecting with friends and nurturing dreams of reaching far.

Teacher Duong Quoc Bao, Founder of ABO Foreign Language Center (Phu Ninh Commune) said that the “Foreign Language Star” contest is an opportunity for children in the area to shine. Many children have never been on stage before, but thanks to this playground, they have the opportunity to express themselves and build confidence.

“In the past, I was also lucky to have the opportunity to participate in competitions, so I understand that learning a foreign language in rural areas is very difficult. I hope that the competition will not only discover talented faces, but will also inspire local students in the spirit of learning, the courage to conquer challenges, as well as nurture beautiful dreams,” Mr. Bao expressed.

Connecting Youth

Behind “Foreign Language Star 2025” is the many-year journey of teacher Duong Quoc Bao and his colleagues at ABO Foreign Language Center. With the desire to bring knowledge back to serve his homeland, teacher Bao has persistently organized many academic playgrounds and exchange programs with international tourists in Hoi An…

Or before that, the project "Teaching English for free to poor children in Quang Nam " was brought by Mr. Bao to the "Volunteer Student Ideas 2019" contest (organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association) and won the second prize nationwide. From the above activities and programs, many children in rural areas have the opportunity to access new knowledge, practice skills and nurture their dreams.

The efforts of teacher Duong Quoc Bao and his colleagues are gradually creating a vibrant foreign language learning movement right from the countryside. Not only receiving the response of students and parents, these activities also attract the attention and support of local organizations.

According to Secretary of the Youth Union of Phu Ninh Commune Nguyen Quoc Khanh, the work of improving foreign language skills and international integration is increasingly being implemented synchronously and effectively from the central to the grassroots level. Many activities are organized effectively, practically, diversely, targeting a wide range of different youth groups; creating positive impressions and results, becoming brand programs, contributing to spreading the spirit of learning and practicing integration skills for the younger generation, especially teenagers.

In Phu Ninh, playgrounds such as Ngoi Sao Ngoai Ngu or PhuNinh's Got Talent not only create opportunities for young people to show off their artistic talents, presentation skills, and foreign language proficiency, but also inspire confidence and creativity. These competitions not only motivate learning but also encourage the spirit of practicing communication skills and global thinking of Phu Ninh's young generation.

“The Phu Ninh Commune Youth Union has identified improving foreign language and soft skills for young people as one of its key tasks. In the coming time, the commune Youth Union will regularly organize foreign language playgrounds, connect with schools and foreign language centers to practice soft skills through experience, apply digital technology and integrate into the Youth Union's movements. From there, it will help local young people confidently integrate and have a solid future,” said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh.
