Today (June 24th), due to the strong development of a hot low-pressure area in the west combined with the Foehn effect, exceptionally intense heat has covered a very large area including the plains and midlands of Northern Vietnam, from Thanh Hoa to the former Phu Yen.
Of those places, Ninh Binh experienced the most intense heat, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius in the old Ninh Binh city area.
Another local weather station in Phu Ly (formerly in Ha Nam province) also recorded a scorching 40.8 degrees Celsius. The other three stations all recorded over 40 degrees Celsius, indicating that the epicenter of today's intense heatwave is in the southern part of the Northern Delta.
Hanoi continues to be the "hottest place" in the country, with the highest temperature recorded this afternoon in Lang reaching 40.8 degrees Celsius. Son Tay also recorded 40 degrees Celsius, while Hoai Duc reached 39.8 degrees and Ba Vi 39.1 degrees. These are the temperatures recorded in the weather station's shelter. The actual temperature in the capital is much higher due to the urban heat island effect.
Earlier in the heatwave at the end of May, Hanoi was also consistently among the hottest localities in the country.

Another notable point is that the area of particularly intense heat has expanded to include some mountainous areas in the North. Specifically, Tuyen Quang recorded a temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, Thai Nguyen 39 degrees Celsius, and Hoa Binh recorded a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, equivalent to Vinh Yen (Phu Tho) – which had twice consecutively been the hottest place in the country during the heatwave at the end of May.
Tomorrow's forecast (June 25th) indicates hot and intensely hot weather in the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam, and the western part of Phu Tho province. Maximum temperatures will generally range from 36-38 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, and minimum relative humidity will generally be between 50-55%.
On June 25th, the mountainous areas of Northern Vietnam experienced localized heatwaves with maximum temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. The heatwave in Northern Vietnam is likely to end from June 26th onwards.
Meanwhile, on June 25-26, the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, the former Binh Dinh, and the former Phu Yen continued to experience intense heat with maximum temperatures of 37-39 degrees Celsius, and even over 40 degrees Celsius in some places, with the lowest relative humidity generally at 45-50%. The heatwave is forecast to continue in this area for several more days.
