A place where character is 'nurtured'

The family is the cradle that nurtures and shapes a person's character. From early childhood, in the loving embrace of grandparents and parents, children learn filial piety, compassion, honesty, and a sense of responsibility. The example set by adults in the family serves as a foundation for children as they navigate life.

Recognizing the crucial role of the family in the development of society, especially in the formation and development of human personality, Thai Nguyen province has always prioritized family affairs, taking the goal of building prosperous, equal, progressive, happy, and civilized families as a guiding principle for sustainable family development. This contributes to building a stable and developing society.

Sharing her thoughts on moral and lifestyle education within families, Ms. Do Thi Kim Dung, a specialist at the Culture Department of La Bang commune, said: "The market economy, global integration, and the development of information technology have directly influenced the thinking and life perspectives of family members. Therefore, moral and lifestyle education has become an urgent issue."

Over the past period, family-related work in Thai Nguyen province has been implemented systematically, with many new models and approaches, rich content, and effective results.

Every year, various levels of government, sectors, and localities successfully organize many activities related to family affairs, such as: the National Action Month on preventing and combating domestic violence and commemorating International Happiness Day (March 20); Vietnamese Family Day (June 28)...

Alongside this, models such as "Culturally Advanced Family"; "Exemplary Grandparents and Parents - Filial Children"; and "Building a Prosperous, Equal, Progressive, and Happy Family" have been developed, effectively implemented, and widely disseminated in people's lives.

In particular, since 2020, the Provincial Steering Committee for Family Affairs has piloted the Code of Conduct for Families in several residential areas of Nam Hoa commune and Ba Xuyen ward. Because the content of the Code of Conduct is practical and relevant to the daily lives of each family, it was quickly embraced by the people, who actively participated in its implementation and considered it a guide to family conduct.

This helps to shape and spread positive values in the relationships and interactions between family members. It contributes to changing perceptions, adjusting actions and behaviors among family members, preserving lasting happiness for each family, and moving towards stability and civility for society as a whole.

Despite her busy schedule, Mrs. Do Thi Duong, from Phan Dinh Phung ward, always makes time each day to play with her grandchildren.

The positive lifestyle of grandparents and parents serves as a moral lesson for children, and its influence is more profound than any moral lesson taught in school. This includes maintaining good eating and living habits, treating neighbors appropriately, facing difficulties, and demonstrating a diligent work ethic.

All of this is naturally absorbed by children through observation and becomes a habit. In a conversation with us, Mr. Chu Pó Xó, from Làng Búc hamlet, Định Hóa commune, shared: "When talking about moral and lifestyle education, we cannot ignore the decisive role of the family. Because it is the place where children are born, nurtured, and educated morally, shaping the character of each future citizen."

In real life, there are many touching stories that demonstrate the role of family in educating moral values and lifestyles.

However, for the family to effectively fulfill its role as a place for nurturing character, coordinated efforts with schools and society are essential. Families cannot be isolated from the task of education; they must work together with schools to create a unified approach to educational goals, methods, and content. Only when each family truly becomes a place for cultivating character will society prosper and be happy.
