Going back in history, nearly 80 years ago, when the resistance war against French colonialism entered its fiercest phase, amidst a busy schedule and the context of the resistance war against French colonialism being very difficult, President Ho Chi Minh still took the time to decide on many important policies and guidelines on gratitude work. He suggested that the Government choose one day of the year as “War Invalids Day” so that people could have the opportunity to show their gratitude and love for war invalids.
On the afternoon of July 27, 1947, at the banyan tree of Ban Co hamlet, Hung Son commune, Dai Tu district (now Ban Co residential group, Dai Phuc commune), the first rally to celebrate "War invalids' Day" was held. 300 Central Party delegates, regional leaders, district resistance agencies and a large number of war invalids and soldiers listened to the announcement of Uncle Ho's letter, acknowledging the birth of War invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27). Many years later, at that old banyan tree, the 27-7 National Historical Site was born, becoming a "red address" in the journey back to the source of many generations.
Regularly coming here to burn incense to pay tribute to his comrades and heroic martyrs, veteran Nguyen Van Cuong in Son Tap 3 residential group, Dai Phuc commune confided: I am proud that my hometown is the origin of the National War Invalids and Martyrs Day. I am even more proud to see that the young generation still remembers and cherishes the sacred values of the nation.
Not only a memorial site, the 27-7 National Historical Site is also a spiritual and traditional educational destination. Every year, the site welcomes thousands of delegations, student groups from all over the country to visit and is a destination in the journey to the source of many units.
Teacher Nguyen Le Thu, Principal of Hoa Sen Kindergarten, shared during the trip with the children: Every time we bring the children here, we not only tell them about history, but also sow the seeds of gratitude and love for their homeland and country. Although the children have just entered kindergarten age, I believe that if patriotism and gratitude are nurtured early, they will be more deeply ingrained in their souls. These will also be beautiful memories, the luggage that the children will carry with them as they grow up.
After 3 times of renovation and upgrading, currently, the space of the 27-7 National Historical Site is spaciously planned, with traditional architecture including Tam Quan gate, memorial house, ceremony yard, Ong temple, Ba temple, lotus pond, tea garden... creating a solemn yet intimate scene. Many activities such as the ceremony to admit team members, union members, thematic activities, extracurricular activities are also held here, helping history to be vivid and profound in the minds of many generations.
Every July, many delegations of visitors from all over the country return to the 27-7 National Historical Site to express their gratitude to the heroic martyrs. |
Besides its historical and spiritual value, the 27-7 National Historical Relic Site is also an attractive cultural tourist destination, connecting with other routes such as Nui Coc Lake, Truc Lam Tay Truc Zen Monastery, ATK Dinh Hoa, etc., creating a unique "return to the source" tourism ecosystem of Thai Nguyen province.
In order to preserve and promote the value of the relic and develop tourism, Thai Nguyen province has implemented many measures to preserve, restore and promote the value of the relic site. These include applying digital technology, 3D digitizing the entire relic, publishing articles on local and national media platforms to spread cultural and historical values.
Comrade Dang Cuong Quyet, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Dai Phuc commune affirmed: We identify the National Historical Relic Site 27-7 as not only a destination, but also one of the spearheads of local tourism development.
During the 2025-2030 term, the commune has developed a plan to connect the 27-7 National Historical Relic Site with local destinations to develop eco-tourism - resorts at Nui Coc Lake with historical - spiritual tourism, to attract more tourists to the locality.
Amidst the flow of time, the 27-7 National Historical Site still quietly preserves the heroic memories of the nation, connecting the past with the present, fostering patriotism for future generations.
In the meaningful days of July, the banyan tree, the incense sticks, the tears, the stories… all blend into a sacred space, where gratitude does not fade with the years. And even though time passes, the journey back to the source will continue, like an underground stream in the Vietnamese soul, silent but strong and persistent.
