Jones spent 12 years with Manchester United. He faced numerous serious injuries and made minimal contributions to the Old Trafford club. Jones decided to retire at the age of 31 in 2023.

On March 19th, the former central defender admitted to empathizing with the similar pain that Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are suffering at MU.

"I sympathize with Mason and Luke," Jones shared. "I know exactly how they feel. To me, it's a shame, because you're playing for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world , and what you crave most is to play."

Shaw and Mount were once expected to become key players for Manchester United, but persistent injuries have cut short their careers. Jones added: "I would say they need to return when they feel comfortable playing. Medical staff these days often urge you to return sooner, but they have to feel that decision is appropriate. You have to make sure the players are ready to play."

Mount and Shaw have both been sidelined since the beginning of December 2024 due to hamstring and calf injuries, respectively. Mount has missed 51 Manchester United games since joining for £55 million in 2023.

Nevertheless, manager Ruben Amorim still placed his faith in Mount. He stated: "I have great faith in Mount. Manchester United need players like him. Mount is a European champion and truly talented. With what he has achieved in his career, Mount will always receive the support and respect of everyone at the club."

Meanwhile, Shaw is in a similar situation. He has missed more games than he has played for the "Red Devils". When fit, Shaw is an irreplaceable defender for MU.

Bruno Fernandes shines as MU thrashes Leicester. In the early hours of March 17th, Bruno scored one goal and provided two assists, helping MU defeat hosts Leicester 3-0 in the 29th round of the Premier League.
