According to Devdiscourse , this milestone was achieved at the OuluZone test facility in Oulu, Finland, using Nokia's advanced 5G mmWave extended-range solution. This is the fastest download speed recorded worldwide to date, demonstrating the reach and connection speeds that 5G mmWave can deliver. It builds on the previous world record set by Nokia in 2021.
Nokia has just set a new speed record for its 5G mmWave range expansion.
In his statement, Ari Kynäslahti, Head of Strategy and Technology at Nokia Mobile Networks, said: "We have just set a new speed record for 5G mmWave expansion. This demonstrates that mmWave solutions will be an essential building block for carriers to efficiently provide multi-gigabit 5G broadband coverage to their customers in urban, suburban and rural areas." This also complements assets on the Sub 6 GHz spectrum.
The test leveraged Nokia's AirScale baseband and 24 GHz mmWave AirScale radio (n258 band) in conjunction with Nokia FastMile 5G PoC CPE (customer-based equipment). By utilizing eight component carriers (8CC) in the download link, aggregating the 800 MHz mmWave spectrum, Nokia achieved impressive peak download speeds of 2.1 Gbps and upload speeds of 57.2 Mbps.
Nokia's mmWave radio portfolio includes compact, high-power, and medium-power solutions. This gives the company the flexibility to ensure seamless service continuity across different environments, enabling networks to meet diverse customer needs.
In a press release, Nokia stated that the FastMile 5G PoC device used in these breakthrough trials is now being tested with major carriers worldwide. Its superior performance over long distances is thanks to the support of a 360° antenna (27 dBi) that adapts dynamically to changing conditions, overcoming the challenges associated with mmWave deployment.
