In Hoa Vang district, farmers began harvesting on April 15th. This year's winter-spring rice crop, thanks to timely sowing, has seen most of the cultivated area enter the harvesting stage. This is a bumper crop with higher yields than the summer-autumn crop, and the quality is assured, making farmers very happy. On the fields, the increased mechanization through harvesting with combine harvesters has also helped farmers save a lot of time and costs. Ms. Ngo Thi Thu (Tay An village, Hoa Chau commune) cultivated the Ha Phat 3 rice variety on an area of 4,000 m² . To date, Ms. Thu has harvested 3.4 quintals per sao (approximately 340 kg per 1000 m²), higher than last year's winter-spring rice crop.
“This is a short-duration rice variety, so it will yield higher productivity than other varieties. Although the beginning of this year's crop was affected by heavy rain, overall, the yield this season is guaranteed. Right after harvesting, I will quickly prepare the land for the summer-autumn crop.” Meanwhile, after harvesting rice on an area of 3,000m² , Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang (village 5, Hoa Khuong commune) said that on average, each sao ( 500m² ) yielded 13-15 bags of fresh rice. The rice grains were not empty, and the price of dried rice at the beginning of the season was about 8,500 VND/kg, higher than the same period last year. Ms. Trang also hopes that the price of rice will increase further to improve her income this production season.
Hoa Phong 1 Agricultural Production Service Cooperative cultivates rice on 228 hectares, with a total of 933 member households. For this rice crop, the cooperative has mobilized 6 combine harvesters to ensure timely completion. The cooperative primarily cultivates rice varieties such as DT100, HG12, and Ha Phat 3, which are short- and medium-day varieties. Mr. Nguyen Si, Director of Hoa Phong 1 Agricultural Production Service Cooperative, stated that this year's winter-spring crop has an earlier planting schedule than in previous years. Unfavorable weather conditions, including heavy rain at the beginning of the season, have extended the rice plant's growth period by 7-10 days. Therefore, the time for care and harvesting has also been delayed.
“We are focusing on harvesting quickly and efficiently, with the spirit of freeing up land as soon as we harvest to be ready for the 2025 summer-autumn crop. After harvesting, the cooperative emphasizes advising farmers to absolutely not burn straw in the fields. Currently, the cooperative has mobilized farmers to exchange rice seeds for the summer-autumn crop,” Mr. Si said. In the fields of Hoa Tien commune, since April 15th, Hoa Tien 1 General Production and Business Service Cooperative has been carrying out rice harvesting for farmers. To date, the cooperative has harvested 100 out of 240 hectares and expects to complete the harvest by May 2nd to prepare for sowing the summer-autumn crop on May 15th according to the planting schedule.
Mr. Ngo Van Sinh, Director of Hoa Tien 1 General Production and Business Service Cooperative, said that the cooperative mobilized 6 combine harvesters and 14 plows to support farmers in harvesting and transporting rice to the cooperative for preliminary processing. “The time between harvesting and planting is very short, so our motto is to be very quick, harvesting even late at night to meet the deadline. According to preliminary assessments so far, the average yield this season is 68-70 quintals/hectare, a decrease of about 10% compared to last year,” Mr. Sinh shared.
According to the Hoa Vang District People's Committee, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop, the locality will cultivate 2,350 hectares, mainly with medium-short-day rice varieties that yield high productivity. Harvesting is being carried out urgently by local authorities. The district's agricultural sector also requested that localities promptly complete the harvest, dry the rice in a timely manner, and free up land to prepare for planting the summer-autumn crop. In addition, the district has notified communes to encourage people to register for the exchange of high-quality medium-short-day rice varieties to serve production…
