Dong Thap agriculture grows impressively and transforms strongly

DTO - In the first 6 months of 2025, Dong Thap's agricultural sector recorded stable growth, in which restructuring and digital transformation were promoted, creating a premise for sustainable development in the coming time.

In the first 6 months of the year, the total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production of the province is estimated at 23,312 billion VND, up 3.6% over the same period and exceeding 100.03% of the plan; the added value (GRDP) reached 10,164 billion VND, up 3.49% over the same period, contributing 1.1 percentage points to the overall growth of the province.

Key industries maintained positive growth. Specifically, cultivation reached VND14,025 billion (up 3.9% over the same period), notably the rice industry continued to develop towards improving quality with the rate of high-quality rice reaching nearly 90% and 7 newly issued growing area codes (2,207ha); short-term crops and industrial crops still maintained economic efficiency thanks to stable selling prices, with profits reaching VND35 - 293 million/ha; ornamental flowers recovered strongly thanks to online sales channels and high selling prices; fruit trees still played a key role with 46,252ha.

The livestock industry in the first 6 months of 2025 also recorded many positive signals. Disease surveillance was effectively implemented, livestock herds were maintained stably, creating a foundation for production development. The output of fresh meat for sale reached 28,342 tons, up 5.1%, completing 100% of the plan for the first 6 months of the year and 46.68% of the yearly plan. The production value of the livestock industry reached 1,373 billion VND, up 5%. The consumption market was stable, in which pig farming recorded increased profits thanks to improved selling prices.


Pangasius - the province's key product still maintains positive growth

Aquaculture maintained its growth momentum with a farming area of ​​4,535 hectares (up 4.4%), harvested output of 290,150 tons (up 3.74%); pangasius played the main role with 232,000 tons (up 5.4%), profits increased significantly thanks to reduced costs and increased selling prices.

The OCOP program has developed strongly with 581 products from 248 entities, including 464 3-star products, 116 4-star products and 1 5-star product, demonstrating a positive change in the quality and brand value of local products.

Regarding the New Rural Development Program (NTM), up to now, the province has recognized 20 more communes meeting advanced NTM standards (a total of 58 communes), and 6 communes meeting model NTM standards. At the district level, the Prime Minister has recognized Thap Muoi and Cao Lanh districts meeting advanced NTM standards in 2024. Along with that, Tam Nong, Thanh Binh and Tan Hong districts have also been recognized as meeting NTM standards. The province is completing the dossier to submit to the Central Government for consideration and recognition of Hong Ngu district meeting NTM standards.

The province promotes the construction of large-scale agricultural production models, applying smart technology, tracing origins and developing value chains; piloting the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project; maintaining and perfecting the VDAPES digital agriculture platform...

In the last 6 months of the year, Dong Thap set a growth target of 4.41% for the agriculture - forestry - fishery sector with key solutions: focusing on promoting the strength of mango, while removing difficulties and enhancing the value of lotus, ornamental flowers, livestock and aquaculture; strictly controlling the quality of input materials of the production process as well as the output quality of agricultural products; supporting product consumption connections, improving competitiveness; increasing the proportion of quality rice, replicating the low-emission rice model to reach an area of ​​over 50,000 hectares.

Along with that, the province focuses on accelerating the progress of digital transformation in agriculture, with the official operation of the digital data platform (VDAPES) before October 2025, ensuring that 100% of growing areas are granted codes applying smart technology; focusing on implementing projects to build and upgrade agricultural infrastructure in line with the goal of restructuring the agricultural sector and adapting to climate change; urgently completing the task of building new rural areas, aiming to recognize more advanced and model new rural communes and districts meeting advanced new rural standards, while promoting the OCOP Program to develop typical products...
