At the Ho Guom Theater in Hanoi , during the awards ceremony of the 5th National Professional Theatre Arts Festival on the "Image of the People's Police Officer" in 2025 (the evening of July 7th), the announcement of Minh Luan (from Hong Van Theatre) winning the individual gold medal brought joy to many audience members and professionals.

But at that moment, the recipient of the honor was busy in Ho Chi Minh City with another milestone: the lead role in the premiere of the film "Memories of Nam Xuan" (directed by Ho Ngoc Xum), produced by Giai Phong Film Studio.

The good news came to Minh Luan through a call from his co-star Lam Vy Da – who represented Hong Van's theater group to accept the award on his behalf. "I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was a truly special feeling, a mix of astonishment and emotion that brought me to tears. This is a gold medal for my nearly 20-year artistic career, so I was very nervous…" – artist Minh Luan shared, his voice still betraying his excitement.

In the play "Another War" by author Tong Phuong Linh, directed by Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat, with artistic consultation from People's Artist Hong Van, artist Minh Luan embodies Kien – a dedicated, courageous, and yet very ordinary police officer.

The play doesn't romanticize or chant slogans, but portrays a specific person in military uniform: serious in his work, gentle in his personal life, sometimes helpless in the face of personal tragedies, but Kien never abandons his responsibilities.

Minh Luan's role was "the most challenging one I've ever played."

"I've played many roles as police officers and soldiers... but this is the most challenging role for me. Not only because the script delves deep into the characters' inner feelings, but also because of the responsibility to accurately portray the character of a people's police officer in today's era – courageous, upright, but also full of humanity," Minh Luan recounted.

To fully embody the character, he spent a lot of time interacting and talking with real police officers. He learned everything from how they walked, stood, and made phone calls, to very small details such as their reactions in stressful situations or the look in their eyes when talking about their families.

"I don't want to play a stereotypical heroic role. I want the audience to see that soldiers are also human beings, who can experience pain and fatigue, but remain steadfast for a greater cause: the peace of the community."

Actor Minh Luan has repeatedly emphasized that this gold medal is not just his alone. "I am grateful to People's Artist Hong Van – who created all the conditions for me to portray the role of Kien; director Le Nguyen Dat – who has a keen eye and immense patience; author Tong Phuong Linh – with a wonderful script, both fresh and profound. And above all, to the entire Hong Van theater group – my colleagues who have loved and supported me in every scene."

Actor Minh Luan has a role of a lifetime.

In his heartfelt thank-you speech, Minh Luan didn't forget to express his gratitude to the audience – those who have accompanied him throughout his nearly 20-year journey. "I see this as a milestone, but also a reminder: I mustn't stop. I must continue to do my job with integrity and dedication."

Actor Minh Luan has persevered in his profession, from television to stage, from drama to comedy, from leading roles to supporting roles. His diverse choices, coupled with his serious approach to his work, have earned him the affection of his colleagues and audiences alike.

With "Another War," he brilliantly portrayed the role, simultaneously evoking empathy from the audience. Kien is not an extraordinary hero, but a symbol of the countless unsung police officers in real life – those who are facing "another war": the war to preserve faith, morality, and conscience in a turbulent society.

Minh Luan's continuing dreams

This award is a significant milestone in Minh Luan's career, not only in terms of title but also in its spiritual value. In a time when the theater scene is facing many difficulties, the fact that a film and television actor like him has ventured back to the stage and left such a great mark is truly commendable.

Artist Minh Luan said he was overjoyed and grateful for the kindness and love shown to him by the entire cast of Hong Van's theater.

"This is a prestigious award that enhances my professional standing after nearly 20 years of dedication," said artist Minh Luan.

Speaking about the artistic process for the role of Kien, Minh Luan said: "This role portrays the image of a law enforcement officer and the model of a husband who always cares for and looks after his wife, even when busy with cases and long missions away from home."

However, the role wasn't rigid; it required understanding and empathy. I received sincere feedback from the police officers to help me perform the role well, accurately portraying their demeanor and professional conduct. The play depicts another side of police officers; they also have their own hardships, but they always prioritize protecting the peace and security of the people."
