Việt NamViệt Nam26/10/2023

On October 26th, in Hanoi, the Library Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) organized a conference to summarize the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest, comprehensively evaluating the results, advantages, difficulties, and lessons learned from the implementation of the contest.

In her opening remarks at the conference, Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the Library Department, stated: The competition is an activity implementing the "Development of Reading Culture in the Community until 2020, with a vision to 2030" project launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2019. The competition has become a playground and a forum for young people, students, and visually impaired students to share effective reading experiences. Every year, the competition attracts a large number of students nationwide who participate enthusiastically, and receives significant attention from parents, teachers, and school staff. The competition has ignited a passion for reading, spread knowledge and a love of reading among all social strata, especially young people, promoting the reading movement and contributing to the development of reading culture in the community.

The summary report at the conference showed that, from 2019 to the present, the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest has been widely launched across ministries, departments, and localities, achieving many important results.

The competition has received attention from leaders at all levels, sectors, agencies, and local units, as well as enthusiastic participation from students across the country. Many localities have coordinated with the culture, sports, and tourism sector, education sector, the Youth Union, the Information and Communications sector, and the Association for the Promotion of Learning to spread the meaning and content of the competition to schools in their areas and units within the armed forces, turning it into a meaningful extracurricular activity. Some localities have made thorough preparations and innovations in organizing the competition, resulting in a larger scale, more systematic approach, and an increasing number of participants.

The competition fostered the creativity and imagination of students. Many touching stories were shared, and works of scientific and artistic value were conveyed to friends and the community with beautiful and rich illustrations. The competition truly became a playground and a forum for students to share effective reading experiences. Some students became reading culture ambassadors, bringing books and the love of reading to those in difficult circumstances in the community.

However, after four years of implementation, coordination between agencies and organizations, as well as funding and human resources, have not received adequate attention...

At the conference, delegates from libraries, agencies, and organizations comprehensively assessed the achievements, advantages, difficulties, and lessons learned during the implementation of the competition at the local level. Delegates also identified the significance and impact of the competition on the community and society; shared and introduced successful models and initiatives for organizing the competition; and proposed recommendations to further improve the quality and effectiveness of future competitions.

On this occasion, the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded Certificates of Merit from the Minister to 20 collectives for their outstanding achievements in organizing the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in the past. The Organizing Committee displayed and introduced some of the winning entries from previous years' Reading Culture Ambassador Contest.
