Having dedicated 20 years to youth group activities, Ms. Vo Thi Mai (born in 1981) - Head of the Youth Group at Vo Liem Son Primary School (Thien Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province ) - always feels full of energy and happiness in being the one who "creates" the joy of going to school for students.

As the new school year began, Ms. Vo Thi Mai received great joy when she was selected by the Provincial Youth Union as the sole head of the Youth Union to lead outstanding members to participate in the program: the first mock session of the Children's Parliament, organized by the Central Youth Union in Hanoi .

For her, this memorable trip was not only an opportunity to interact and get acquainted with the team leaders in provinces and cities across the country, but also a chance to listen to the voices, thoughts, and understanding of the team members. From there, she gained more experience in her team activities.

Ms. Mai stated: "To successfully fulfill my role and responsibilities, in addition to enthusiasm and dedication, the Head Teacher in charge of the Youth Union must be dynamic and constantly innovating. Therefore, training courses and trips are great opportunities for me to interact, learn, and expand my knowledge. And the trip to Hanoi at the beginning of the school year is one such opportunity."

Ms. Mai and four outstanding team members from Ha Tinh visited the museum in the basement of the National Assembly building (this activity was part of the first mock National Assembly for children event, which took place from September 8th to 10th).

In 2004, after graduating from the Vocational School of Culture and Arts in Ha Tinh, the young teacher from Thien Loc was assigned to be the Head of the Youth Union at Khanh Loc Primary School (now Khanh Vinh Yen Primary School). In the early days of her career, she faced many difficulties and challenges, lacked experience, and was performing duties outside her field of expertise. However, the support of her colleagues and her love for her students motivated her to constantly strive for improvement.

A memorable turning point in Ms. Mai's career began in 2007 when she was transferred to Vo Liem Son Primary School. Her three years of experience and the joy of contributing to her hometown gave her the confidence to demonstrate her abilities and dedication to her work. With the belief that creativity is key to attracting students to participate in the school's activities, Ms. Mai constantly learns to improve her professional skills and expertise, proactively introducing new models, activities, and competitions that are both educational and entertaining into the school.

Cleaning up the environment at the tomb of Mr. Vo Liem Son is also a way for Ms. Mai to educate her students about traditions and the principle of remembering one's roots.

This involves flexibly integrating beneficial activities for students such as: English language exchange; themed painting competitions; weekly activities like "One Beautiful Story," "One Good Book," "One Shining Example," activities about remembering one's roots, and improving academic performance... These diverse activities have contributed to moral education for students and enhanced the quality of the Youth Union's work.

Thanks to the dynamism, creativity, and boldness of the female Head of the Youth Union, Vo Liem Son Primary School was the first unit in Can Loc to organize activities such as: a school-wide Youth Union congress in a theatrical format; innovating the form of organizing schoolyard singing and dancing performances according to monthly and annual themes; and implementing the "green house" model to educate students on waste sorting, maintaining environmental hygiene, and collecting recyclable materials to raise funds for underprivileged students.

The "Green House" model implemented by the students of Vo Liem Son Primary School brings in over 10 million VND in funds each year.

Dang Quynh Anh, a 5th-grade student from Vo Liem Son Primary School, shared: “Thanks to the Youth Union's initiative, we have developed a sense of self-awareness in collecting bottles, cans, and waste paper to donate to the green house project. We have also encouraged our family members to participate, so each quarter, the funds collected from this activity are quite substantial. We are very happy that we have contributed to doing good to protect the environment and help our friends.”

Besides her work with the Youth Union, Ms. Mai is also deeply committed to charitable activities within the school. She said: "There are still many disadvantaged students in the locality who need help, so for many years, in addition to launching fundraising campaigns and small projects within the school, I have also boldly mobilized resources from businesses and philanthropists. Thanks to this, each of our Youth Union branches has received dozens of gifts, many study corners, and bicycles worth tens of millions of VND to donate to students in difficult circumstances. In addition, every month, we also give a gift worth 500,000 VND to one student under the Youth Union's foster child model."

Thanks to the dedicated and creative contributions of the head teacher, the activities of the Youth Union and the children's movement at Vo Liem Son Primary School have been increasingly strengthened, contributing to the overall achievements of the school. For many years, the school has been recognized as the leading primary school in Can Loc district; in the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 school years, it received a commendation from the Central Youth Union.

Ms. Mai is a dedicated and passionate teacher with a high sense of responsibility. Thanks to her innovative and creative approach, the school's Youth Union activities have become increasingly diverse, practical, and beneficial. The appeal of these activities has fostered a greater love for the school and its students, encouraging them to actively cultivate moral character and life skills, contributing to the improvement of overall educational quality. Ms. Mai's personal achievements and the accomplishments of the Youth Union activities have further enhanced the school's traditions, motivating all teachers and students to dedicate themselves and strive for excellence in teaching and learning.
