The UK Defence Journal, citing a statement from the ministry, reported that four reconnaissance balloons ordered from the US, codenamed "Barbara," will join Poland's early warning and reconnaissance system.
The value of this purchase agreement is approximately over $1.2 billion, including ground-based and airborne radar systems, as well as extensive support provided by the US side, including training and logistical packages or technical documentation.
The Polish Ministry of Defence emphasized that the new equipment will significantly improve the country's military's aerial surveillance capabilities.
For its part, Washington asserts that the deal will help enhance the security of Poland, a key US ally in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The sale will also help Warsaw enhance its capabilities to counter current and future threats from enemy air and ground-based weapons systems.
