There are no entirely right or wrong choices in situations like this. On one side is family, on the other is national responsibility. Players, behind the spotlight, also carry very human dilemmas.
For Kim, the irony was that just days after selecting his team, he had to face the harshest side of football. He sacrificed a moment of great personal time, tried to keep South Korea in the game, but could ultimately still be remembered for one mistake.
That's why Kim Seung-gyu's tears evoked so much emotion. They weren't just about a loss, but also a reminder that behind every mistake on the court is a person bearing a much greater burden than what the audience sees.
