Onana wants to stay at MU. |
AS Monaco are interested in signing Onana this summer. However, the Guardian reports that the Cameroonian goalkeeper is committed to Manchester United and wants to prove his worth under manager Ruben Amorim next season.
At the end of last season, manager Amorim said he would reassess every position in the squad, including Onana's playing time. He said: “We will assess every position in the squad. Manchester United needs improvement. We can't change all the players, but we need to improve the quality of each position on the pitch. The goalkeeper position is also important; we can work with Andre. He has proven himself to be a top player at Inter.”
Monaco's interest in Onana comes at a time when Emiliano Martinez is reportedly keen to join Manchester United. The Argentinian goalkeeper could leave Aston Villa this summer to join a more prestigious club.
A source revealed to The Sun : "Martinez is close to Lisandro Martinez in the Argentina national team and is very keen to move to Manchester United. He turned down several other attractive offers just to wait for this opportunity. Amorim also wanted to sign Martinez back in 2020 when he was managing Sporting."
However, if they want to sign Martinez, MU will have to offload Onana. Altay Bayindir, Onana's backup goalkeeper, is also expected to leave Old Trafford during this transfer window.
Monaco are considering signing Chelsea's Djordje Petrovic after failing to convince Onana to join them.
