On the afternoon of July 28, the Military Region 7 Command and the Communist Magazine jointly organized a scientific conference with the theme "Building and firmly protecting the Fatherland in the new situation in the southern provinces and cities".
Core in building national defense in the area
In his opening speech, Major General Tran Vinh Ngoc - Political Commissar of Military Region 7 said that this is a very meaningful activity, aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
The workshop focused on exchanging and discussing the historical context and requirements for the two strategic tasks; the Party and State's specific policies and guidelines for the southern provinces and cities; the role of the political system in the southern provinces and cities in the two strategic tasks; the importance of "people's hearts and minds", the role and responsibility of the masses in the cause of national construction and defense in the new situation...
Major General Tran Vinh Ngoc also emphasized that the workshop is a very important opportunity for officers and soldiers of Military Region 7 to understand more deeply the achievements, important contributions, and valuable experiences of the armed forces of Military Region 7 throughout nearly 80 years of building, fighting, and maturing in carrying out the task of building and defending the Fatherland.
Through the workshop, we will strengthen and foster patriotism, national pride, absolute loyalty to the Party, State and people; the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance and aspiration to contribute to the officers and soldiers of Military Region 7 today.
Major General Le Xuan The - Commander of Military Region 7 gave a speech affirming that the Military Region 7's armed forces are the backbone in building a national defense foundation in the area.
According to Major General The, as of July 1, Military Region 7 has 4 provinces and cities with 483 commune-level units (including 2 special zones), a population of over 24.6 million people, a total natural area of 52,558 square kilometers, a border with Cambodia of 768.5 kilometers and a coastline of 322 kilometers.
This is where many major economic centers converge, a bustling international exchange hub - a particularly important strategic location for the whole country in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
With such military and socio-political characteristics, the requirement to build an all-people national defense in the Military Region is of vital significance to maintaining political stability, creating a favorable environment for socio-economic development, and being ready to defeat the enemy in all situations.
Supplementing scientific arguments for the cause of national construction and defense
Speaking at the workshop, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi assessed that the southern provinces and cities in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular are important geopolitical areas in the strategy of building and protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
“Building and defending the Fatherland are two strategic tasks throughout the Vietnamese revolution. Building the country and defending the country are the laws of existence and development of our nation. Building socialism and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland are the laws of development of our country’s revolution,” Mr. Nghi emphasized.
At the same time, Mr. Nghi said that in the context of rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments in the world and region, pressure on national defense and security is increasing.
In addition, climate change, natural disasters, epidemics, terrorism, transnational crimes, and cybercrime are increasingly widespread, posing a threat to the world, threatening the stability and development of all aspects of life, countries around the world and the region.
Domestically, although our country's "position and strength" and overall strength have increased and its international reputation has been increasingly enhanced, there are still many difficulties and challenges.
According to Mr. Nghi, the Southern region is a particularly important strategic area in terms of politics, socio-economics, culture, national defense, security and foreign affairs of the country. Therefore, strengthening security and national defense is an “urgent requirement, aiming to quickly create “position and strength” in protecting national sovereignty, security of border areas, seas and islands”.
Mr. Nghi hopes and believes that the results obtained from this workshop will contribute to supplementing important scientific and practical arguments to serve the cause of building and firmly defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland in the new situation, especially in the southern provinces and cities.
