From December 13th, the Binh Quoi ferry will resume operation after more than a year of suspension.
According to Tuoi Tre Online 's observations on the morning of December 13th, the Binh Quoi ferry terminal (Binh Quoi ward, Ho Chi Minh City) has become bustling again after more than a year of inactivity. From early morning, many people traveled across the ferry on motorbikes and on foot.
The atmosphere was lively and bustling, a stark contrast to the prolonged silence of the past period.
Even though it wasn't peak hour, the flow of people was quite steady, indicating that the demand for this ferry route remains very high.
For many residents, the resumption of ferry services means having another short, quick option to travel between Binh Thanh District and the former Thu Duc City, avoiding the perpetual traffic jams around Binh Trieu Bridge, National Highway 13, and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street…

Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Suong (residing in Binh Quoi ward) said that the Binh Quoi ferry has been a part of her life since childhood.
"I was so happy to hear that the ferry was back in service. I had nothing to do this morning, but I still went on the ferry for a ride to enjoy myself. I used to commute to work by ferry, so the fact that it's back is much more convenient," said Mrs. Suong.
Many students also view crossing the Binh Quoi ferry as a convenient daily solution.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc (a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, residing in Binh Thanh Ward) said she frequently crosses the ferry to go to school in the Ho Chi Minh City National University urban area.
"Taking the ferry and crossing Kha Van Can road is much easier and avoids traffic jams compared to going around Binh Trieu bridge. Especially since the ferry is free for students, I'm so happy that it's back in operation," Ngoc shared.
On the first day the ferry resumed operation, the No. 1 Waterway Police Team (Ho Chi Minh City Police) was present at the dock to coordinate inspections, distribute leaflets, and disseminate information about the Inland Waterway Traffic Law to dock owners, staff, and passengers. Safety measures were tightened to ensure the ferry operates smoothly.
Mr. Tran Van Hoang, owner of Binh Quoi ferry terminal, said that the ferry being allowed to resume operations is a great joy not only for his family but also for the people in the area.
"With this ferry terminal, people can travel much faster and more conveniently. My whole family, nearly ten people, depend on this ferry for our livelihood, so we're very happy. I just hope I can continue driving the ferry to serve the people," Mr. Hoang said.

The Binh Quoi ferry has resumed operation, allowing people to travel between Binh Thanh District and the former Thu Duc City in just a few minutes.
The Binh Quoi ferry service has been suspended since July 2024, forcing residents to detour via the Binh Trieu bridge or nearby routes to travel between Binh Thanh district and the former Thu Duc city.
Before temporarily ceasing operations, this was a familiar option for residents, helping to alleviate traffic congestion on surrounding routes such as Binh Trieu Bridge, National Highway 13, and the Dinh Bo Linh - Xo Viet Nghe Tinh axis...
During the ferry service's downtime, the dock area becomes deserted, with only a few locals fishing.
Over the past period, Tuoi Tre newspaper has repeatedly reported on this situation, noting the aspirations of the people and proposing solutions such as surveying needs, arranging suitable operating hours, and ensuring safe operation.
The official resumption of the Binh Quoi ferry service not only helps people avoid traffic jams but also restores a waterway that has been closely linked to the lives and livelihoods of many generations.
