A few days ago, the French national team defeated Brazil 2-1 with a dominant performance. Captain Kylian Mbappe started the match and scored one goal.
This time, Colombia continued to be a formidable opponent for many players who play in Europe. However, they were still not a worthy opponent for France, even though the European representative did not field their strongest lineup. Mbappe even only started from the bench in the final minutes to "warm up".
In reality, the match unfolded in a fairly balanced manner. Neither team truly dominated, and the number of chances created was almost equal. Specifically, France only had 55% possession and 14 shots. Colombia was not far behind, with 45% possession but also 13 shots on goal.
But the difference lies in the finishing. With an attack overflowing with stars, it's clear that the French team does it better.
They may not have been sharp enough, but just one shot on goal was enough to make their feet feel more fluid. That was when Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. The goal was somewhat fortunate, as the ball deflected off a Colombian defender and went into the net.
But that was enough to propel the French players to new heights. In the 41st minute, the lead was doubled with a close-range header from Marcus Thuram. Then, in the 56th minute, Doue completed his brace with a delicate finish inside the penalty area.
Colombia's consolation goal came in the 77th minute with an improvised shot from Jaminton Campaz inside the penalty area.
The 3-1 victory once again affirmed the strength of the French team and showed that they are a strong contender for the 2026 World Cup title.
