One stamp depicts a dragon swooping down on a blue background, while the other depicts a dragon soaring high on a red background. Both stamps have the words “Lunar New Year - Year of the Dragon” printed on the background in French and Chinese. The blue stamp costs 1.29 euros ($1.39), while the red stamp costs a higher 1.96 euros.

The stamps are designed by Chinese-French artist Chen Jianghong, who combines traditional Chinese realist painting with the Xieyi style, a traditional sketch-based painting style. The combination will bring viewers to the mythical and fairy-tale world of the Dragon, a symbol of strength and power in East Asian beliefs. Some of the bright, vibrant colors, especially red, in the stamps are intended to represent the power of the Dragon, the fifth symbol in the 12-year Chinese zodiac.

The French Postal Group began issuing stamps based on the lunar calendar in 2005 with the aim of enhancing cultural exchange between the French people and the Asian community in France in general.
