France issues a set of dragon stamps.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024, the French postal group (La Poste Group) has issued a special set of two stamps to commemorate the Year of the Dragon, a tradition in Asian culture.

One stamp depicts a dragon swooping down against a blue background, while the other shows a dragon soaring upwards against a red background. Both stamps feature the inscription "Lunar New Year - Year of the Dragon" in French and Chinese. The blue-background stamp is priced at 1.29 euros (1.39 USD), while the red-background stamp is more expensive at 1.96 euros.

The French-Chinese artist Chen Jianghong, who designed the stamp set, said the work combines traditional Chinese realistic painting with the Xieyi style, a traditional sketching technique. This combination will transport viewers to the mythical world of dragons, symbols of strength and power in East Asian culture. The vibrant colors, especially red, in these stamps are intended to represent the power of the dragon, the fifth animal in the 12-animal zodiac.

The French Postal Corporation began issuing zodiac stamps based on the lunar calendar in 2005 with the aim of strengthening cultural exchange between the French people and the Asian community in France in general.
