STO – In response to World Environment Day, on June 2, ActionAid Vietnam, Vietnam Social Security Program and Project Support Fund (AFV) cooperated with Vinh Chau Town People's Committee to organize a Green/Green Carbon program to Vietnam. Attending the program were Ms. Razmi Fatima Farook - Director of Global ActionAid International Programs for Emergency Relief, in charge of Asia; Mr. Ta Viet Anh – Chairman of the Management Board of AFV; representatives of leaders of provincial departments and agencies and People's Committee of Vinh Chau town.

The program has implemented activities of joining hands in planting, caring for and protecting mangrove forests, with more than 100 union members, youth, pupils and students from some provinces and cities in the country and people of Vinh Chau town participating in planting 500 fish sauce trees in the protection forest area of Tra Set hamlet, Vinh Hai commune, Vinh Chau town.
At the launching ceremony of Green Carbon / Green to Vietnam took place at Chau Van Do Secondary School (Vinh Chau town), with more than 500 delegates attending. The organizers informed about typical projects that ActionAid and AFV have implemented under the themes of clean energy, green environment, adaptation to climate change, sustainable livelihood models...; awarding Green Carbon certificates to representatives who have made positive contributions to afforestation and environmental protection; organizing the Kahoot game to raise awareness and call for action to protect the environment and respond to climate change; awarded a symbolic board of 20 million VND to Vinh Chau Town and Youth Union of 3 project communes of Vinh Hai, Lai Hoa and Lac Hoa to implement initiatives to protect the environment and reduce waste.

According to the climate change scenario in Vietnam in 2020, more than 47% of the area of the Mekong Delta is at risk of flooding, the organizers said. ActionAid is a member of the Partnership for Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention – a coalition of international organizations working in Vietnam committed to working together to assist Vietnam in disaster risk reduction and prevention. AFV is a strategic partner of ActionAid and has many programs to support people with disabilities, children and disadvantaged people to better cope with natural disasters and climate change. AFV currently has many development support programs in 10 provinces and cities across the country. In which, in Soc Trang province has implemented the project "Strengthening resilience to climate change of coastal communities in the Mekong Delta" in Vinh Chau town phase 1 (2021-2024), with the goal of mitigating adverse impacts of climate change and enhancing the resilience of coastal communities.

Mr. Tran Tri Van - Vice Chairman of Vinh Chau Town People's Committee shared: "The total forested area of Vinh Chau is now 4.319,64ha. Conservation and restoration of coastal ecosystems offers an opportunity to implement a nature-based solution to mitigate and respond to the impacts of climate change locally. In the development policy orientation, it is necessary to focus on transforming the economic model from exploiting natural resources to a knowledge economy, green economy, circular economy, low carbon economy, attracting businesses, individuals and organizations to invest in the field of environmental protection and climate change response. At the same time, promote the movement of the whole people to respond to the project "Growing 1 billion trees in the period of 2021 - 2025" of the Prime Minister, restoring forests, associated with developing sustainable livelihoods for the people.
