Leveraging the potential of historical and cultural heritage in tourism products.

Recognizing tourism as a key sector aimed at sustainable growth, Dong Thap province focuses on improving the quality of traditional historical and cultural tourism products, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists to visit, research, and contribute to socio-economic growth.

According to the Dong Thap Provincial Museum, the locality currently has a total of 295 ranked historical and cultural relics, including 4 special national relics and 34 national relics associated with the names of national heroes and historical and cultural events that have been exploited and developed for tourism linked to the education of local revolutionary traditions.

Notable historical sites include: the Rach Gam - Xoai Mut site in Kim Son commune, associated with the glorious victory of national hero Nguyen Hue in the war to annihilate 50,000 invading Siamese troops in 1785; the tomb and temple of national hero Truong Dinh; the Royal Tomb (Son Quy ward), the birthplace of the virtuous Empress Dowager Tu Du; the temple of Thu Khoa Huan (My Tinh An commune); Long Hung communal house - marking the Southern Uprising in the former Tien Giang province, now Dong Thap province; the Oc Eo - Go Thanh archaeological site in Cho Gao commune...

In particular, the sites of the uprising led by national hero Truong Dinh in Dong Thap province, including: Truong Dinh's tomb and temple (Go Cong ward); Truong Dinh's temple, the dark leaf-covered area (Gia Thuan commune), Dinh pond (Tan Dong commune); the Phao Dai rampart (Phu Tan commune)... have been classified as Special National Monuments according to Decision 694/QD-TTg dated July 18, 2024, of the Prime Minister .

Furthermore, the historical site of the tomb of Deputy Scholar Nguyen Sinh Sac in Cao Lanh ward, Dong Thap province, has recently been classified as a Special National Monument according to Decision 1959/QD-TTg dated September 11, 2025, of the Prime Minister. This site is the resting place of Deputy Scholar Nguyen Sinh Sac, the father of the beloved President Ho Chi Minh. The complex includes: the tomb and tomb dome, a lotus pedestal, an exhibition hall displaying images and artifacts about the life of Nguyen Sinh Sac; and an exhibition room displaying images about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh.

According to Mr. Vo Pham Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, the aforementioned historical sites are increasingly attracting a large number of tourists, contributing to the formation of eco-tourism tours and routes in the orchards, which are attractive to domestic and international tourists.

To maximize the potential of local cultural and historical tourism, Dong Thap province has implemented activities to introduce and promote local tourism products and images, focusing on developing new tours to attract tourists through the connection and organization of travel businesses inside and outside the province. Cooperation and linkages are becoming increasingly practical. Travel businesses have proactively developed tours and routes and expanded the tourism market between Dong Thap and other regions throughout the country.

As a result, in September 2025, Dong Thap province is expected to welcome 400,000 tourists, including 42,000 international visitors. In the first nine months of 2025, Dong Thap's tourism sector is projected to welcome over 5 million visitors; total tourism revenue is estimated to exceed 3,000 billion VND.

According to Vo Pham Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, with its rich and diverse potential, natural resources, and long history and culture, Dong Thap province is becoming an attractive destination. The rational exploitation of tourism potential combined with visits to historical and cultural sites will create conditions for the sustainable development of tourism in Dong Thap.

The Department continues to advise the Provincial People's Committee on implementing the Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of tourism in Dong Thap province for the period 2026-2030 and finalizing the tourism product "Journey to the Land of Pink Lotus to visit heritage sites".

The Department is strengthening investment promotion, prioritizing high-quality, environmentally friendly tourism projects and destinations with development potential; boosting professional promotion and marketing, focusing on digital transformation and information digitization to develop a smart tourism ecosystem.

Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong emphasized that for the 2025-2030 term, the province has identified tourism as a key sector, creating a "boost" for tourism to make a significant leap forward in the local economic structure. To achieve this, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism must consider improving the quality of Dong Thap province's tourism products in terms of traditional historical and cultural tourism, spiritual tourism, experiential tourism, and environmental conservation. In addition, the provincial tourism sector needs to closely connect with other sectors in investing in transportation infrastructure, accommodation, unique products, environmental conditions, and local identity.
