Developing new OCOP products

Quang Ninh OCOP products are invested in, innovated in quality and design and received high appreciation from consumers.

In order to support entities to develop and register to participate in OCOP product ranking, in recent times, Quang Ninh province has integrated resources to support economic organizations with products registered to participate in the OCOP Program to have conditions to expand their scale, upgrade factories, machinery and equipment, complete products and trade promotion activities, find consumption markets...

According to Ha Long City, a locality with many strengths in developing unique and quality OCOP products, the development of OCOP products is always focused on every year. In particular, all stages of product support and development and attention to origin, source of raw materials, product design, etc. are top priorities for Ha Long City to orient towards sustainable development of local OCOP products.

Accordingly, Ha Long has re-planned concentrated production areas, supported the development of strong models, potential OCOP products, developed and improved product quality, enhanced competitiveness in the market, such as: Medicinal plant growing areas, Morinda officinalis (Dong Son, Dong Lam, Ky Thuong, Tan Dan); Taiwanese guava growing areas (Son Duong, Dan Chu, Quang La); flower growing areas (Le Loi, Thong Nhat, Son Duong, Ha Phong); Ha Long squid sausage food processing area, Phuong Thanh pork sausage (Hon Gai)... Currently, in Ha Long city, nearly 50 OCOP products have been developed and 100% of OCOP products and products participating in the OCOP cycle in the area have been traded on the e-commerce platforms Voso.vn and Postmart.vn. A representative of Manh Ha production facility, Cao Xanh ward, Ha Long city, said: We have been a manufacturer and supplier of Ha Long squid rolls for many years now for the domestic and foreign markets. Squid rolls have been known and highly appreciated by many consumers for their quality and design. Currently, the unit's squid rolls have been granted a 4-star OCOP certificate. In order to continue developing the product and aiming to bring the squid rolls to 5 stars, we are promoting investment in production lines, building a unique squid roll brand to target customer tastes and protect product trademarks. In the coming time, the unit will continue to invest heavily in facilities, upgrade product designs, packaging and research to bring squid rolls to the market in new forms and weights, meeting the needs and tastes of customers.

To promote the development of OCOP products, Quang Ninh province has effectively implemented 7 groups of solutions according to Decision No. 3398 dated November 16, 2022 of the Provincial People's Committee, with the goal of strongly developing the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) Program until the end of 2025. In particular, focusing on promoting propaganda work to raise awareness of economic organizations, management agencies and people about the OCOP program; focusing on implementing support mechanisms and policies, prioritizing the use of capital from national target programs and preferential credit sources, to promote production, business and development of OCOP products; promoting the application of science and technology in production from product traceability management to encouraging the application of advanced technology in production, processing and preservation of products; Focus on organizing production associated with planning raw material areas, developing OCOP products based on natural advantages, culture and local production practices associated with the province's key agricultural products such as: Ba Che Ba Kich, Duong Hoa Hai Ha tea, Binh Lieu vermicelli; Ha Long squid rolls...

On January 16, 2025, Ba Che golden flower tea product was just granted a 5-star certificate.

In particular, by 2025, the province aims to have 8 to 10 national 5-star OCOP products to further develop and upgrade Quang Ninh OCOP products. To realize this goal, the province has proactively implemented measures to carefully select potential products that fully meet the criteria of 5-star products. At the same time, specialized working groups have been established, conducted field surveys, consulted and guided subjects to complete dossiers and evaluation criteria. Thanks to the focus on product development, recently on January 16, 2025, Ba Che golden flower tea products were granted 5-star certification, bringing the total number of national 5-star products of Quang Ninh to 5 products. Currently, the province also has 4 other potential products waiting for 5-star evaluation from the Central Government, including: Bavabi oyster floss, Quang Hanh natural mineral water with added gas, DB 7-leaf Gynostemma pentaphyllum tea health protection food, and DB An Duong Vien health protection food.

According to statistics from the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office, by the end of 2024, the whole province will have 432 OCOP products with 3 stars or more, including 5 OCOP products with 5 stars; 107 OCOP products with 4 stars; 320 OCOP products with 3 stars. There are 186 subjects participating in the OCOP program, including 48 enterprises; 70 cooperatives and 68 cooperative groups and households. Currently, to develop new OCOP products, localities, enterprises, cooperatives, and production establishments are actively developing products according to market demand, focusing on quality factors, standards, regulations, intellectual property, food safety, packaging design, etc.
