To align with general trends and enhance the competitiveness of services, developing green and modern logistics is a goal that businesses in the industry and localities are striving to achieve.
Aiming to become the national logistics hub.
Dong Nai currently covers an area of over 12,700 km² and has a population of nearly 4.5 million people. The province possesses rare advantages, including Long Thanh Airport as a global aviation gateway; Phuoc An deep-water seaport directly connected to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system; inter-regional expressways; and a seaport with large handling capacity that has already been invested in. In addition, the Hoa Lu International Border Gate and other main and secondary border gates with Cambodia create favorable conditions for the formation of cross-border trade corridors.
Alongside the aforementioned crucial transportation infrastructure, Dong Nai also boasts a concentrated industrial sector with dozens of industrial parks of the highest scale in the country. By 2026, the province will have several more large industrial parks, spanning thousands of hectares, located near Long Thanh Airport. This is a vital foundation for forming a multimodal connectivity network, creating room for logistics to develop in depth, rather than merely focusing on transportation.
At the national level, logistics is becoming a strategic component. The goal by 2035 is to reduce logistics costs to 12-15% of GDP and establish world-class logistics centers. This opens up great opportunities for localities with infrastructure like Dong Nai. Dong Nai is striving to become a transit gateway for the entire South by 2030 with a dynamic, comprehensive, and flexible infrastructure system including: road, rail, air, waterway, and maritime transport.

On the verge of transforming into a city, Dong Nai is entering a phase of repositioning its role in the development structure of the Southeast region. In this process, Dong Nai's logistics industry is gradually asserting its important position in the local economic development roadmap. According to Mr. Phan Dinh Canh, Chairman of the Dong Nai Logistics Association, the logistics industry is gradually playing a crucial role, acting as a pillar in the economy. With its advantages, Dong Nai has the potential to become the logistics center of the Southern region.
Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), commented: Dong Nai is one of the localities that is bold and has many advantages for developing logistics. Besides road and waterway transport, air logistics will be a distinct advantage, linked to Long Thanh Airport. Given its scale, Dong Nai needs to aim to develop the Long Thanh Airport area into an important cargo transshipment hub for the region and the whole country.
Despite its leading scale and potential for logistics development nationwide, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai believes Dong Nai needs to address its bottlenecks. These include the fragmented and unsynchronized development of logistics infrastructure. Simultaneously, it needs to develop hard, soft, and digital infrastructure, from transportation, warehousing, and inland ports to data management and supply chain connectivity. This is because the logistics chain only operates efficiently when there is interconnectedness between commercial infrastructure, transportation, and information technology.
Developing green logistics services
Developing green logistics is an inevitable trend and a crucial criterion for evaluating the sustainable development of the entire logistics industry. When businesses apply green logistics to their strategies, in the long run, they will increase their customer base, boost revenue, reduce costs, and enhance competitiveness.
According to experts, Vietnam has great potential to become a new logistics hub in the region if it continues to improve infrastructure, simplify procedures, and develop green logistics. Currently, the greening of logistics in Vietnam faces many challenges, especially as businesses seek deeper access to the EU market.
Dong Nai's logistics network is well-planned with key centers already established and scientifically distributed in areas such as: Long Thanh Airport, Phuoc An Port, Trang Bom, Loc Ninh, Chon Thanh, Dong Xoai, and Dong Phu. These centers are designed to seamlessly connect seaports, airports, border gates, and industrial zones.
These are the requirements that logistics service businesses in Dong Nai are gradually implementing, realizing the goal of green development. Phuoc An Port, a seaport with a scale of nearly 800 hectares and a total investment of nearly 20 trillion VND, is the largest seaport in Dong Nai province. Phuoc An Port identifies net zero as the core goal in its long-term development strategy. The unit is investing heavily in green port infrastructure, modernizing equipment using clean energy, with most of the operating systems being converted to electrification.
Dong Nai Port is also oriented towards promoting digital transformation with the implementation of GTOS (General Goods Handling System), effectively utilizing the E-port electronic port to improve service quality, facilitate customers, and optimize management and operation throughout the entire port system.
However, the challenges are also significant. Modern logistics is not just about warehousing or transportation, but a combination of technology, data, institutions, and operational capabilities. According to Mr. Phan Anh Tuan, Director of Tan Cang Long Binh Joint Stock Company, businesses want the State to accelerate administrative procedure reforms in the management of logistics activities towards digitalization, intelligence, conformity with international standards, improving the quality of human resources, and perfecting the investment environment…
