Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez has been in the spotlight after failing to join Manchester United in this summer's transfer window.

According to Athletic , Martinez had a conversation with his Argentina teammate, United centre-back Lisandro Martinez, to push for a transfer. However, all efforts were unsuccessful when the MU board recruited Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens before the summer transfer window closed.

Martinez's brother Alejandro told DSports Radio : "Emi gives a lot on and off the pitch. He is loved and the directors don't want to sell him because he is a key player for the team. It's a commercial decision."

Alejandro also affirmed his brother's position at Aston Villa similar to Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi or Sergio Aguero at Napoli, Barcelona and Man City respectively.

Martinez's father, Alberto, also spoke about the deal: "The club is like a factory, Emi is just an employee, and the factory will not let Emi go if he is good enough. It's all business. The deal didn't happen today, but it might happen tomorrow."

Martinez missed the opening game of the 2025/26 Premier League season through suspension and was also left out of the Aston Villa squad for last week's defeat to Crystal Palace. Martinez also turned down an offer from Türkiye because he wants to continue playing at the highest level.

MU won hard at home. Late on August 30, Manchester United had their first victory in the Premier League when they defeated Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford.
