Martinez was considered an option for United at the end of the transfer window. According to The Athletic , the Argentine goalkeeper waited for information at Aston Villa's training center. He constantly checked his phone and was ready to leave if United reached an agreement on the transfer fee.

However, Martinez could not join Old Trafford because the "Red Devils" decided to recruit Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. However, the situation is not too tragic for the 2022 World Cup champion.

The Athletic claim that Martinez will return to Unai Emery's starting line-up after being left out of Villa's 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on August 31. Martinez has no intention of moving to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, although the transfer window in those leagues is still open.

Martinez has been one of the world's top goalkeepers for years, helping Aston Villa finish in the top six of the Premier League in each of the last two seasons. He also started all seven games on Argentina's journey to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper could be available for Villa's next game when they visit Everton on September 13. Meanwhile, Lammens is also likely to make his debut for the Red Devils in the Manchester derby on September 14.
