Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 at an event taking place at midnight on September 10th (Vietnam time). Although no details have been shared, many rumors suggest that the new smartphone line will feature major upgrades in design, camera system, and other elements.
Besides the standard models, attention is also focused on the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, which is likely to replace the Plus line. Additionally, at least one iPhone 17 model will see a price increase.
Following the unremarkable iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 17 could be the most significantly upgraded generation in recent years. Below are the most anticipated improvements to the iPhone 17 based on rumors.
Prices may increase.
The price of the iPhone 17 remains a subject of debate. Writing on Truth Social in May, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all iPhones manufactured outside the United States.
In fact, Apple has moved part of its assembly line to India to reduce its reliance on China, a country subject to higher US tariffs. According to Bloomberg , factories operated by Tata Group are expected to assemble 50% of iPhone production in India within two years, alongside Apple's major partner, Foxconn.
The WSJ also reported on the iPhone price increase in May. However, the reason for the price increase may stem from the new design and improved hardware, not entirely from tariffs.

On August 13th, rumor expert Instant Digital stated that the iPhone 17 in the US would be $50 more expensive than its predecessor. The device is expected to have a starting price of $1,050 , but with storage capacity doubled to 128 GB. Later in August, analyst Jeff Pu also claimed that the iPhone 17 would increase in price due to the impact of tariffs imposed by the US on China and India.
In a July post, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee stated that Apple was expected to increase the price of all iPhone 17 models by $50 . However, on September 2nd, research from JPMorgan Bank indicated that only the iPhone 17 Pro would see a price increase. Essentially, Apple would eliminate the 128GB version, making 256GB the lowest-priced option.
JPMorgan also predicts the standard iPhone 17 will maintain its starting price ( $800 ), while the iPhone 17 Air will be priced similarly to the iPhone 16 Plus ( $900 ) or $950 . Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman also believes the iPhone 17 Air will be priced the same as the iPhone 16 Plus.
Improved camera
Cameras are always a highly anticipated improvement in each generation of iPhone. Back in April, analyst Jeff Pu stated that all four iPhone 17 models would feature a 24MP selfie camera, double the previous 12MP.
Similar information was also shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in January 2024. Additionally, he predicted that the telephoto lens on the iPhone 17 Pro Max would use a 48 MP sensor with a 1/2.6-inch size, an improvement over the 12 MP 1/3.1-inch sensor of the iPhone 16 Pro.
Speaking to MacRumors , an anonymous source said the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro will support up to 8x optical zoom, a significant increase over the iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple is also reportedly developing a camera app with various professional modes, although it's unclear whether this feature is exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro or all models.
On the YouTube channel FrontPageTech , leaker Jon Prosser stated that the iPhone 17 will support a new video recording mode, allowing simultaneous recording from both the front and rear cameras, ideal for content creators or vloggers.
In a series of images shared by leaker Majin Bu in February, the rear camera of the iPhone 17 Pro will be larger, with a rectangular protrusion similar to the Google Pixel. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 will retain the vertical camera module, and the iPhone 17 Air will only have a single lens.
Refine the design.
The design of the iPhone 17 is no longer new, as rumors have been circulating quite a bit. The highlight may come from the iPhone 17 Air, with leaker Ice Universe stating that the product is only 5.5 mm thick at its thinnest point.
Additionally, Kuo predicts the iPhone 17 Air will only feature a single 48MP rear camera, housed in a pill-shaped horizontal bump. The device is expected to have a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion, Dynamic Island notch, and Face ID.
A real-life prototype of the iPhone 17 Pro has also appeared on social media platform X. Based on the images, the device is fitted with a case, clearly showing the horizontal camera module. Analyst Mark Gurman even "liked" the image, suggesting the leaked information may be accurate.

Following the failed integration on the iPhone 16 Pro, Majin Bu predicts Apple is still developing a prototype iPhone with a force-sensitive button, similar to Camera Control. However, it remains unclear whether the company will equip the iPhone 17 with this system.
Regarding the remaining models, analyst Jeff Pu stated that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and 17 Pro use aluminum frames with a more complex construction. For comparison, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus use standard aluminum frames, while the iPhone 16 Pro models feature titanium frames.
However, The Information reported in early September that all four iPhone 17 models will use an aluminum frame. Regarding the back design, the two iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to combine glass and aluminum, with the upper half being aluminum for the camera module and the lower half using glass to support wireless charging.

Except for the iPhone 17 Air, analyst Jeff Pu says the remaining iPhone 17 models will retain the same screen sizes. If the information is accurate, the iPhone 17 will have a 6.1-inch screen, the iPhone 17 Pro will be 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be 6.9 inches.
Another rumor, revealed by The Elec (South Korea) in early 2024, suggests that the standard iPhone 17 will be the first to use LTPO technology, enabling always-on mode and ProMotion, with a 120Hz refresh rate similar to the Pro series.
Apple may also move the Apple logo on the back to a lower position to improve the balance of the camera module. Majin Bu's rendered images show the Apple logo placed in the center of a square glass frame. This design helps retain wireless charging and MagSafe, although accessory manufacturers will have to adjust their products to fit the new position.
Many new colors
To increase variety, Apple often changes color options with each generation of iPhone. This could continue with the iPhone 17, as leaker Majin Bu reports that Apple is testing a blue color for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. However, according to the latest information, this color might be transferred to other devices.
Specifically, a source from Macworld in early July indicated that the blue color would likely appear on the iPhone 17 Air, but in a lighter shade. Even Majin Bu confirmed that the blue color would be on the iPhone 17 Air, not the iPhone 17 Pro.
On June 20th, Bu shared that Apple is testing pastel purple and green colors for the iPhone 17. These colors could replace some of the iPhone 16 colors, such as pink or dark blue.

Regarding other colors, Macworld reports that the iPhone 17 will retain the black and white options from the iPhone 16, alongside colors such as gray, light blue, green, and purple.
The site also predicts the iPhone 17 Air will come in black and white, in addition to light blue and gold. This blue might be lighter than the blue on the standard iPhone 17, while the gold is similar to desert titanium but brighter.
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are rumored to come in black, white, gray (similar to natural titanium), deep navy blue, and orange, inspired by the Apple Watch's Action button.
Hardware and battery life
According to Mark Gurman, the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature the A19 processor, with the iPhone 17 Pro using the higher-end A19 Pro version. All four devices will likely have 12GB of RAM, a significant increase from the 8GB on the iPhone 16 Pro.
The iPhone 17 Air will most likely use Apple's own C1 modem and eliminate the SIM tray globally.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, at least one iPhone 17 model will feature Apple's own Wi-Fi 7 chip. Currently, the iPhone 16 uses a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combined chip supplied by Broadcom, but its specifications are limited. Meanwhile, Apple's chip will feature the latest specifications.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro may feature a vapor chamber cooling system, which improves heat dissipation during heavy usage. On August 11th, Majin Bu reported that the product has an antenna design similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, surrounding the rear camera module to improve 5G signal strength.

With the iPhone 17 Air, Apple will likely reduce battery capacity to optimize its slim design. However, Mark Gurman emphasizes that the product's battery life will be "on par with current iPhone models," possibly the iPhone 16e.
According to a Bloomberg writer, software and hardware optimizations, particularly from the C1 modem, could extend the battery life of the iPhone 17 Air.
However, The Information reports that only 60-70% of iPhone 17 Air users can use their device all day without recharging, according to Apple's internal testing. For comparison, this rate is around 80-90% for other devices.
Another source from Bloomberg indicates that the iPhone 17 Air may use silicon-anode batteries supplied by TDK. This technology helps extend battery life despite its small physical size. Additionally, the product may feature wireless reverse charging, allowing AirPods or other accessories to be charged by placing them on the back.
