Hazard has been quite active in cycling since retiring from playing. |
The former Chelsea star will participate in the famous Lille-Hardelot race, taking place in June in northern France. This is a route of over 160 km, connecting Lille to the Hardelot region near Boulogne.
The league organizers confirmed Hazard's participation and praised the former Belgian international's new journey. According to them, Hazard's competitive spirit has never disappeared; he's simply finding a different rhythm of life after leaving top-level football.
After retiring in 2023 due to persistent injuries sustained during his time at Real Madrid, Hazard shifted his focus to the wine business and investing in sports technology projects. He then unexpectedly found his passion in cycling, a sport extremely popular in Belgium.
Hazard reportedly spends a lot of time training on long roads, seeing it as a way to maintain his passion for the sport without the pressure of achieving results. Lille-Hardelot's organizers describe the former Belgian star as "a racer among thousands," rather than the image of the football star who once dominated Europe.
Throughout his football career, Hazard became an icon for Chelsea, scoring 110 goals in 352 matches and playing a major role in helping the London club win two Premier League titles, two Europa League titles, and numerous domestic trophies.
