On June 2nd, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province organized a scientific seminar "Pho in the contemporary context from the perspective of cultural heritage".
At the seminar, cultural and culinary researchers clarified the origins, cultural elements, and community cohesion through cuisine, as well as issues related to preserving and developing the pho-making profession. These are important foundations for compiling a dossier to include pho in the national list of intangible cultural heritage.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang from the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture , Sports and Tourism), the process of building a dossier to include pho in the national list of intangible cultural heritage must comply with the procedures and regulations in the Law on Cultural Heritage.
On the other hand, it is necessary to identify the relevant factors in deciding the name of the heritage site, thereby focusing on the elements and types that create the distinctive and typical value of the heritage site.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Van Bai, Vice Chairman of the National Council for Cultural Heritage, believes that in order to include pho in the national list of intangible cultural heritage, the government, specialized agencies, and especially those involved in preserving and developing the pho-making craft in Nam Dinh, need to highlight the unique characteristics reflected in all stages, from preparing and selecting ingredients and food, to the method of making the characteristic fresh pho noodles; and the processing and completion of a delicious, high-quality, and nutritious bowl of pho.
Mr. Dang Van Bai believes that competent cultural agencies at all levels have the responsibility to coordinate and guide the community in implementing activities to protect and promote the value of culinary culture in general, and Nam Dinh pho in particular.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province, Do Quang Trung, also affirmed that the opinions of researchers, experts, local authorities, and the community have further clarified the value and contributed to promoting Nam Dinh pho to all levels of people, domestic and international tourists.
In particular, identifying pho in its contemporary context will provide a scientific basis for completing the dossier to include pho in the national list of intangible cultural heritage.
