(Dan Tri Newspaper) - This year's Halloween on Hang Ma Street is even more special; in addition to spooky toys, many masks of celebrities and athletes like Ronaldo and Messi are also on sale, attracting many customers.
In late October, Hang Ma Street (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi ) becomes bustling with thousands of items for Halloween. Halloween, a Western holiday, is a day to pray for the souls of the deceased and takes place on the night of October 31st each year. On this day, parishioners often dress up as ghosts and goblins and go from village to village asking for crumbs of bread, symbolizing food to nourish the souls. According to observations by Dan Tri reporters over the weekend, a large number of people, mainly young people, flocked to Hang Ma Street to have fun and shop for all kinds of colorful and diverse costume items. Traditional Halloween decorations such as pumpkins, cloaks, and masks are being sold in abundance.
This year, Hang Ma Street features a considerable number of spooky and terrifying models that send shivers down the spines of onlookers. These macabre items are being sold for prices ranging from a few hundred thousand dong to tens of millions of dong. A large quantity of these goods is being sold to cafes, bars, pubs, hotels, and large restaurants to meet their decorating needs. The owner of a business on Hang Ma Street said that right after the Mid-Autumn Festival ended, the store quickly imported and displayed items for Halloween. Business this year is a bit slower than in previous years, but items with spooky and eerie designs are still quite popular. With its diverse range of goods and colors, Hang Ma Street is a familiar destination for young people, not only for shopping but also for taking photos and checking in every Halloween season. Que Lam (Long Bien district), who regularly visits Hang Ma Street with her mother and younger brother every Halloween, shared: "Even though there are still a few days until the main holiday, the atmosphere here is already very lively. This year's decorations are beautiful and come in a variety of colors." Ms. Xuan and her daughter had the opportunity to visit Hanoi from Cao Bang and took the chance to immerse themselves in the Halloween atmosphere on Hang Ma Street. She said this was the first time her daughter had experienced this special atmosphere, so she was very happy and excited, although still a little scared of the scary toys there. It's not uncommon to see people and children strolling the streets in costumes. Ms. Hang (from Ba Dinh district), along with her daughter Gia Han, visited Hang Ma street dressed as her daughter's favorite Harry Potter character. She said, "I also do Halloween decorations at school, so I fully support my daughter dressing up. She spent over 20 minutes putting on makeup and getting dressed to go out." Many foreign tourists also joined in the festive atmosphere on Hang Ma Street. "It's wonderful to see the decorations here; they look so vibrant. I will definitely come back to Vietnam," shared a German female tourist. A relatively new and popular item for Halloween this year, brought in by many businesses, is masks featuring famous athletes and actors such as Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc. Each mask sells for around 30,000 VND.
