Dan Hoa is a mountainous border commune where livestock and poultry farming has long been an important source of livelihood for many households. The commune currently has over 8,300 head of livestock and approximately 10,000 head of poultry. In the first five months of 2026, the disease situation among livestock and poultry remained relatively stable, with no dangerous outbreaks detected. This result is largely due to the vaccination, disease surveillance, and other preventive measures regularly implemented by the local authorities.
According to Mr. Dinh Tuan Anh, Director of the General Service Center of Dan Hoa commune, in implementing the 2026 animal disease prevention and control plan, the unit is coordinating with villages to strengthen vaccination efforts for livestock. To date, the locality has administered 1,500 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine to buffaloes and cattle and 800 doses of rabies vaccine to dogs from provincial support in 28 villages; and has allocated funds to administer an additional 1,500 doses of hemorrhagic septicemia vaccine to buffaloes and cattle.

Along with vaccination, professional staff regularly visit the grassroots level, guiding people on hygiene in livestock pens, handling livestock waste, and monitoring the disease situation. However, disease prevention and control still face many difficulties due to the large geographical area, many remote villages, and poor transportation infrastructure, while livestock farming is mainly small-scale and scattered.
In addition, resources allocated to disease prevention are limited; some people are not yet proactive in implementing disease prevention measures. The buying, selling, and transportation of livestock, along with unpredictable weather patterns, also pose a potential risk of disease outbreaks and spread among livestock.
In Cha Cap village, Mr. Ho Xon's family currently raises 6 cows. For his family, the herd of cows is an important source of livelihood, so disease prevention is always a priority. Whenever the local authorities organize vaccination campaigns, he always proactively brings his livestock to participate fully.
Mr. Ho Xon shared: "In recent years, thanks to regular dissemination of information and guidance from veterinary officers, people have better understood the importance of vaccination. Proactive disease prevention helps livestock farmers feel secure in developing their herds and avoid economic losses when disease outbreaks occur."
Beyond vaccination efforts, Dan Hoa commune has implemented a comprehensive set of solutions to prevent disease outbreaks early and proactively. In 2026, the locality organized two rounds of general sanitation, disinfection, and environmental decontamination in livestock areas, slaughterhouses, and animal and animal product trading points. Villages were mobilized to cooperate with specialized forces in cleaning livestock pens, collecting waste, and spraying disinfectant in high-risk areas.
Simultaneously, the local authorities are strengthening inspections of slaughterhouse management, veterinary hygiene, and food safety at businesses trading in animals and animal products. This allows for the timely detection and correction of shortcomings and limitations that could lead to the spread of pathogens in the community.
As a locality with the Cha Lo International Border Gate, Dan Hoa always faces the risk of disease outbreaks from outside through the transportation of animals and animal products. Therefore, coordination between the local government and border guards, customs, and related units is strengthened to strictly control circulation activities, contributing to preventing disease outbreaks in the area.
According to Truong Cong Thang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Hoa commune: "The locality continues to implement comprehensive solutions to prevent and control diseases in livestock, from vaccination and environmental disinfection to controlling slaughtering activities and raising awareness among livestock farmers. The goal is to proactively prevent diseases, protect livestock, and stabilize livelihoods for the people."
Thanks to the proactive efforts of the government, specialized agencies, and livestock farmers, the prevention and control of livestock diseases in Dan Hoa commune is gradually becoming more effective. This contributes to protecting livestock, stabilizing production, and improving the lives of people in the border region.
