PSG takes a jab at Messi and Mbappe?

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi made a cryptic comment alluding to Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe after the club secured the 2024/25 Ligue 1 title with six games to spare.

In his acceptance speech on the morning of April 6th, following PSG's championship victory, Al-Khelaifi emphatically stated: "The star of PSG right now is the collective, not an individual." He stressed that their current success stems from the unity and effort of the entire team, rather than relying on a few big names as in previous years.

"We are proud to have won Ligue 1 – one of the top leagues in Europe, and even more so because we are unbeaten until this point. Congratulations to the players, coach Luis Enrique, sporting advisor Luis Campos and the entire team for their extraordinary work. This is a fantastic moment for fans across France and around the world," Al-Khelaifi added.

According to Al-Khelaifi, the whole world has witnessed PSG's transformation in the new era. The club prioritizes team spirit above all else, considering the team as its biggest star. "It is thanks to that philosophy that PSG's light is shining brighter than ever," the PSG president concluded.

These statements could be a subtle reference to the era when PSG possessed a glamorous but uncoordinated squad of superstars. From 2021 onwards, PSG brought in Messi to partner with Neymar and Mbappe, creating a dream trio that didn't achieve real success.

After Messi moved to Inter Miami, Neymar joined Al Hilal and then returned to Santos, and Mbappe went to Real Madrid, the French team was forced to rebuild. Under Luis Enrique, PSG reaped rewards thanks to unity and tactical discipline.
