Riding her old bicycle to the Dong Cam rice restaurant, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bich Oanh (71 years old, residing in Thanh Khe district) emotionally said: "I'm old now and don't earn money, so I often eat here. The rice costs 2,000 dong but it's very delicious, and the dishes change constantly so I don't get bored. The dedication of the staff gives us more motivation to live, makes us more optimistic, and makes us love life more."

Besides elderly people like Mrs. Oanh, the Dong Cam rice restaurant also attracts laborers, lottery ticket vendors, and motorbike taxi drivers…

Despite often being ill, Ms. Ha Thi Xuan (53 years old, from Quang Nam province) still goes around the streets every day with her stack of lottery tickets to earn a living.

Since learning about Dong Cam restaurant from a colleague, Mrs. Xuan has regularly eaten there to save money and have a little extra to cover her medical expenses.

"It was very touching. The meal was crowded with strangers, but it felt as warm and cozy as a family gathering," Mrs. Xuan shared.

For nearly two years, the Dong Cam 2,000 VND rice restaurant has been open to welcome and share with those in need. On average, the restaurant sells about 150 meals a day for 2,000 VND, but each meal is complete with 3-4 dishes including vegetables, meat, and fish, and the menu is changed regularly.

Everyone who comes to eat is always served enthusiastically.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hoa, head of the Dong Cam Charity Club, shared her thoughts on the idea of ​​opening a 2,000 VND meal shop: "The club has been established and doing charity work for 9 years."

"With the desire to have a fixed canteen serving delicious and nutritious meals for patients and elderly people selling lottery tickets, rickshaws, Grab drivers, etc."

The purpose of charging 2,000 VND is to ensure that people don't feel indebted or embarrassed when they come to eat, and it also makes the restaurant staff responsible for serving customers enthusiastically, creating a happy and comfortable atmosphere for them.

To provide these affordable meals, members of the Empathy Club contribute both time and resources, along with the support of generous donors.

"For us, providing delicious and nutritious meals to those in need is a joy and a source of happiness," shared Ms. Hoa.
