According to the Quang Binh Provincial Electronic Information Portal, on September 20, 1975, the Central Government decided to merge Quang Binh with Quang Tri and Thua Thien provinces to form Binh Tri Thien province, with Hue city as the provincial capital.
Starting from here, several districts in the former Quang Binh province were merged: Le Ninh district ( Quang Ninh and Le Thuy), Tuyen Minh district (Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa).

According to the Quang Binh Provincial Electronic Information Portal, in response to the aspirations of the Party Committee and people of Binh Tri Thien, on July 1, 1989, the Central Party Committee decided to separate the three provinces back to their original boundaries. Quang Binh restored the positions of its districts to their pre-merger status. On December 12, 2004, the Government issued a decision to upgrade Dong Hoi town to a Type 3 city directly under the province.

"This is Vi Da Village" is a poem written by Han Mac Tu (real name Nguyen Trong Tri) around 1938, when he was 26 years old. At the prime of his life, unfortunately, this talented young man contracted a deadly disease – leprosy. At that time, leprosy was considered an incurable disease.
This poem, "This Village of Vi Da," is considered one of the most exquisite depictions of "beautiful, poetic Hue." Under the pen of Han Mac Tu, the scenery of Hue appears simple, dreamy, gentle, and full of longing. The poem is also the author's heartfelt expression for a girl from Hue. Even knowing that their love is hopeless, that they will forever be "two parallel lines," the author's longing and lingering feelings remain, leaving the reader with a sense of unease.

Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is a special national historical site located in Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province. It served as the administrative center of the Nguyen dynasty and was a military fortress in the Quang Tri region.
During the 1972 General Offensive and Uprising, this place became known worldwide as being associated with the heroic 81-day and 81-night battle of the nation.
Today, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel has become an unmissable historical attraction on any trip to Quang Tri. It is considered a cemetery without tombstones for all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. On December 9, 2013, the Ancient Citadel was classified as a special national historical site, associated with the 81-day and 81-night historical event.
