Quang Ngai and Kon Tum hold meeting to discuss merger of provincial-level administrative units.

On the morning of April 15th, at the Kon Plông District Party Committee headquarters in Kon Tum province, the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces held a working session to implement several issues related to the merger of provincial-level administrative units as directed by the Central Government.

Attending the meeting were the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with members of the Standing Committee of the two provinces of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum.

Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council of Quang Ngai, Bui Thi Quynh Van, said that according to the Central Government's roadmap, the merger plan of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces must be completed before May 1st and reported to the Central Government for approval by the competent authorities. In implementing this directive, Quang Ngai has proactively prepared the necessary content, including draft plans and proposals.

In addition, Quang Ngai has also basically prepared transportation plans and arranged official housing to ensure that officials and civil servants of Kon Tum province who need it after the merger of the two provinces are served.

According to Duong Van Trang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Kon Tum, the preparation of the contents for the merger by the Standing Committee of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee was very timely and in accordance with regulations and principles.

There is still much work to be done in the coming period, so both sides should soon agree on the time and form of exchange and coordination to ensure the highest level of consensus when implementing the provincial merger plan.

During the meeting, the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces discussed the establishment of joint working groups to implement the tasks assigned by the Central Government to the provincial level in order to form a unified province.

Specifically, this includes working groups on administrative units; organization, structure, and staffing; personnel; local policies; headquarters and public assets; and a working group on finance and budget. Officials will be appointed as liaisons to coordinate between the respective agencies of the two provinces to facilitate the exchange and resolution of issues related to the merger. Feedback will be given on the first draft of the Merger Plan and Implementation Scheme; and a schedule and location for meetings between the two Provincial Party Standing Committees to resolve issues will be agreed upon from now until September 1, 2025.

Previously, the 11th Conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (13th term) approved the provisional list of 34 provincial-level administrative units after mergers, including the merger of Kon Tum province and Quang Ngai province, under the name Quang Ngai province, with the political and administrative center located in Quang Ngai province.
